Disney Imagineer Scott Mallwitz takes you behind the construction wall at Monstropolis in a behind-the-scenes look at the site at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where they are preparing for Human Day.
Monstropolis

We can only see so much from our reporting in the park! While there is a lot of scaffolding and scrim, we get a bit of a closer look at the facades, storefronts, and more. Imagineers are busy bringing the elements into this world, like claws, scales, horns, etc. Read more about the land’s backstory.

There will be shops, schools, and theaters, just like in the human world, where monsters live, work, and play. Here is our closest look yet at the outside of what will be the Glob Theater.

They are creating an immersive environment where you can explore what it means to be a monster. To the left in this image will be the Glob Theater and straight ahead, behind the boom lifts, was the location of PizzeRizzo.

Here is our first good close-up of how the site is being prepped at ground level. These forms and rebar are being prepared to receive concrete.

H.U.M.A.N. Day
Following the events of Monsters, Inc., when Mike and Sulley discovered human laughter is more powerful than screams, Monstropolis changed. Fear and caution gave way to curiosity and connection. Now, for the first time, the monster world is opening its doors to humans for H.U.M.A.N. Day!
Short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” H.U.M.A.N. Day is part celebration, part cultural exchange. It’s designed to introduce humans to life inside Monstropolis while helping monsters discover that humans aren’t frightening.
