Disney is showing a behind-the-scenes look at the construction site for The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios—specifically the Alice in Wonderland-themed playground.

In the clip, we see the Drawn to Wonderland area with a Mad Hatter house. The play space will be for ages five and under and have several interactive elements. Disney recently released the map of the space, as well are more concept art.

It’s inspired by the original Alice in Wonderland concept art from Disney Legend Mary Blair.

Guests will be able to play inside the Mad Hatter’s house or among the Tulgey Wood forest.

One of Disney’s goals is to encourage various kinds of play, so they have sensory marbles embedded in the Tulgey Wood forest walls on both sides for guests to interact with.

Various ceiling and lighting effects will appear to look like treetops and pink swirls or dark and stormy thunderclouds.

Because the playground is inside, they have to keep facility restraints in mind. The space used to be an office, so they are working around things like support columns to create the desired environment.

“Drawn to Wonderland” comes to life through bold colors, whimsical shapes, and Blair’s unmistakable artistic style. One of Imagineer’s favorite pieces of playground equipment allows guests to choose to paint roses red or white with the spinning play feature. Guests will be able to spin each disc, and one side has a red rose and the other has a white rose.

As seen in the new concept art above, smaller guests can enjoy a roller slide, getting lost in a maze of hedges, or moving items along a course at the Mad Tea Party table. There will be ample seating for parents to recharge while the kids play, and to recharge their electronic devices.
Other experiences in The Magic of Disney Animation include a new Animation Academy experience hosted by Olaf (instead of live artists) and six new meet and greets.
Additionally, Disney recently took the Goofy stern down from the Disney Magic to get new paint job and minor repairs. He was reinstalled after a few days.
