Mitchel Musso, known for his role as Oliver Oken on Hannah Montana, made his first-ever podcast appearance on The Joe Vulpis Podcast on June 24. He talked a lot about the time he spent on the show, with Disney, the work that got away, and why he skipped the reunion.

Of course, Musso talked at length about his time not just with Hannah Montana but with Disney at large. Though he acknowledged that there were gigs he didn’t get, or maybe didn’t even know about, because of how tied down he was at Disney. Those gigs included the voice of Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

He largely stepped away from Hollywood for the last decade.

“I don’t know if you could have done anything bigger than Hannah [Montana] when Hannah was on, right? That was bigger than life,” Musso told Vulpis. “So, I’m sure there were things that were offered to my agency, but it was impossible to do it because we were so locked in with Disney. If it wasn’t a DCOM, a Disney Channel Original Movie, then…we couldn’t do it.”

While he said he and his castmates were inseparable during the show, Musso opted to skip the 20th reunion altogether. He would only have said “yes” if it involved a scripted production and a return to his character, Oliver. “The kid in me was banking on it,” Musso said on the podcast. “Do an episode. Do a show. The set is still there. They just did it differently, and it is what it is, but it wasn’t the right thing.”
