Disney has announced that major changes will be made to the classic Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress show scenes at the Magic Kingdom, and a new permit filing could indicate more substantial work might be in store.
Carousel of Progress Permitting

The final day of operation for the current version of the Carousel of Progress will be July 5, 2026. The attraction will be closed beginning July 6, 2026, and Disney expects the overhaul to be completed in 2027.
In addition to adding Walt Disney to the attraction, Imagineers will also be updating all the scenes to new time periods. We will get to see what John, Sarah, and the rest of the family are up to as the attraction’s timeline is shifting to a new series of years.

A recently filed Notice of Commencement indicates “general construction.” However, what jumps out is the contractor listed on the permit. Southeastern Construction & Maintenance, Inc. is listed, and “Structural Steel Fabricator, Industrial Construction, and Theme Park Construction Since 1972” is what they do, as stated on their website.
Some of their projects include the StarCon Manufacturing Facility, using 2,500 Tons of structural steel, and the Artemis 1 Mobile Launch Platform with 1,500 tons of structural steel.
The scope of Southeastern Construction’s projects could mean that the upcoming Carousel of Progress project might involve more than just updating all the scenes to new time periods.
