The Jessie-inspired song was released Friday morning on streaming, digital, CD, and vinyl. Spotify shared last night that “I Knew It, I Knew You” quickly became the most-streamed country song in a single day by a female artist in the streamer’s history.

The song also became Apple Music’s biggest country single of 2026 and broke their all-time record for the biggest soundtrack single, based on first-day plays.

Swift, who co-wrote the song with frequent collaborator Jack Antanoff, said, “Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once.”

Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton said, “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable.”

The song mirrors Toy Story 2‘s famous “When She Loved Me,” written by Randy Newman and performed by Sarah McLachlan, which played as Jessie explained her tragic backstory. “I Knew It, I Knew You” brings Jessie’s story full circle.

In the new film, Jessie (Joan Cusack) ends up back at the house where she originally lived with Emily. There, she meets the young horse-loving Blaze (Mykal-Michelle Harris). Emily will appear in remastered flashbacks.

Toy Story 5 will be in theaters on June 19.
