When Toy Story 5 opens next Friday, June 19, it may break records not just for the franchise, but potentially even for Pixar.

According to Boxoffice Pro, the latest prediction for Toy Story 5's opening weekend in the U.S. could range between $150 million and $175 million. The last Pixar film to hit over $150 million in the domestic box office on opening weekend was Inside Out 2 in 2024 with $154.2 million.

For reference, here is how the other Toy Story universe films have done opening weekend in the U.S. (not counting for inflation):

  • Lightyear: $50.5 million
  • Toy Story 4: $120.9 million
  • Toy Story 3: $110.3 million
  • Toy Story 2: $80.8 million
  • Toy Story: $29.1 million

To date, Incredibles 2 (2018) is Pixar’s highest-grossing opening weekend film, which earned $182.6 million in its first domestic weekend. That record is followed by Finding Dory (2016) with $135 million, and then Toy Story 4 (2019).

Toy Story 5 Teaser

The teaser starts with Jessie and Bullseye watching some kids stare at computer tablets as toys warn them about devices taking over. Back at Bonnie’s house, Lilypad sends Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the gang to the garage. Buzz says they need back-up, and the teaser cuts to various clips of the Multi-Buzz, a group of 50 Buzz Lightyear toys stuck in demo mode that will help the main characters in the film.
