UPDATE: Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Air Conditioning Partially Restored After Multi-Day Outage

Even one day without air conditioning, let alone three, is enough to make any Walt Disney World resort stay memorable for all the wrong reasons. Air conditioning has been partially restore at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge after a multi-day outage.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is still dealing with air conditioning issues after a multi-day outage during extreme Florida heat, though the situation appears to be improving in some areas of the resort.

The air conditioning outage was first reported on Thursday with guests sharing that the main building of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge became extremely warm in guest rooms, the lobby, dining areas, and other indoor spaces.

Comments on social media throughout the weekend indicated that some guest rooms reached the low 80s, with others reporting even higher temperatures during the worst of the outage. The outage came as Walt Disney World and the surrounding Central Florida area were experiencing heat index values around or above 100 degrees.

As of Sunday morning, June 21, guest reports indicate the air conditioning has not been fully restored across the entire resort. Instead, the issue appears to be in a partial recovery phase, with some rooms cooling back down while other areas remain uncomfortably warm. One Facebook user reported that they were told Disney has deployed temporary, smaller AC units to cool portions of the main building.

One recent guest report stated that their room had dropped to 73 degrees overnight, after previously sitting around 81 degrees. Another guest said their main-building room had improved to 74 degrees after a new unit was brought in to help cool rooms.

The Boulder Ridge Villas, a separate, newer building from the main building, reportedly have not experienced AC issues during this period.

Which Areas Are Still Impacted?

The main lodge building appears to be the center of the ongoing issue. Guests have reported warm conditions in the lobby, guest rooms, and some dining and retail areas.

Dining operations have been affected by the outage. Reservations were unavailable for Whispering Canyon Cafe and Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White on June 19 and 20. Some later guest reports indicate that Whispering Canyon Cafe did operate Saturday night, but guests described the restaurant as very hot, with large fans set up in some areas.

As of June 21, reservations are available as normal for both locations. This may be thanks to slight relief from portable AC units, or due to demand given the Father’s Day holiday.

Roaring Fork, the resort’s quick-service location, has reportedly remained open. Recent on-site reports noted temporary portable AC units in the quick-service area.

Cast Members Respond With Fans, Water Stations, and Support

Cast Members are working to mitigate the outage while engineering teams continue to address the underlying issue.

Guests have reported receiving box fans or portable fans for their rooms, though availability has been limited due to the scope of the outage. Some guests said they were told fans had to be brought in from other resorts.

On-site reports also suggested cooling stations have been set up around the resort, where Cast Members have been offering complimentary drinks and treats.

One Reddit user and purported Cast Member claimed that Disney posted an “all hands on deck” overtime opportunities for all Cast Members stationed in the vicinity of Wilderness Lodge to help operate cooling stations and support guests at the resort.

Guest Compensation

Guest recovery appears to vary by case.

Some guests report receiving refunds or comped nights. Other guests were offered transfers to other Walt Disney World Resort hotels, including Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

Disney has not publicly confirmed the cause of the outage or announced that the issue has been fully resolved.

Guests currently staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, or checking in soon, may want to contact Disney directly for the most current information about their specific room assignment and available options if they want to adjust their reservation in light of this development.
