The wishing star shone a little brighter over Shanghai Disneyland for a one-night-only celebration of the resort’s first decade.
Shanghai Disney Resort 10th Anniversary Gala Spectacular

Shanghai Disney Resort marked its 10th anniversary with a special gala nighttime spectacular in front of Enchanted Storybook Castle, featuring live performances, castle projections, fireworks, and appearances by Disney leaders Bob Iger and Josh D’Amaro.

The special event was held as part of Shanghai Disney Resort’s year-long “With You, It’s Magic+” 10th birthday celebration. The resort officially opened to guests on June 16, 2016, making this week the milestone anniversary for Disney’s first resort in mainland China.

The gala took place in the Gardens of Imagination, with the Enchanted Storybook Castle serving as the centerpiece of the show. The castle was transformed throughout the performance with colorful projection mapping, anniversary imagery, star-filled visuals, and bursts of pyrotechnics.

The show opened with a character-filled musical celebration, hosted by event speakers blending Mandarin and English segments with live musical performances.
Bob Iger and Josh D’Amaro Take the Stage

One early highlight of the ceremony came when former Disney CEO Bob Iger and current Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro appeared on stage to commemorate the occasion. Speaking on the resort’s 10th anniversary, the two Disney leaders spoke briefly:
D’AMARO: Good evening everyone. The 10th anniversary of Shanghai Disney Resort is a testament to the powerful, enduring partnership between the Walt Disney Company and the Shendi Group. Together, we have built Shanghai Disney Resort into a world-class tourism destination that brings Disney stories to life in entirely new ways.
IGER: When we set out to create this magnificent place, I promised it would be authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese. Over the resort’s first decade, it’s clear we have lived up to those words. Walt Disney created his original Disneyland as a place where families could have fun together. Shanghai Disneyland is part of that legacy now. I am so proud to be here tonight knowing all the joy we have brought to millions upon millions of guests these first ten years. And I will look forward with pride as I see this resort continue to grow and touch the lives of those who visit.
D’AMARO: Well thank you Bob. We would not be here tonight if not for you, and I know that I speak for everyone here tonight when I say how grateful we are for your leadership. I’m also grateful to our friends in the Shendi group, to our Cast Members here in Shanghai, and to everyone in the Walt Disney Company who has contributed to this tremendous success. The future here is so bright, because in so many ways we have only just begun to write the Shanghai Disney Resort story. Thank you everyone, and enjoy the show.
Iger in particular is deeply tied to Shanghai Disney Resort, which opened under his leadership at The Walt Disney Company.

A series of live performances followed with music and visuals from across Disney classics and modern hits, including Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Zootopia, and more. A wide variety of castle projection effects, costumed characters, singers, dancers, and other performers accompanied the musical cues, culminating in a fireworks-heavy finale over Enchanted Storybook Castle.

D’Amaro and Iger returned to the stage for the banner anniversary moment: the symbolic lighting of the resort’s “wishing star.” The sequence served as a ceremonial transition into the fireworks finale of the event, with the castle lighting up behind them as projected visuals covered the castle and filled the stage area.

Both the intro and finale for the show featured the resort’s 10th anniversary theme song, “Magic Together.”

In addition to the anniversary performance, the resort also used the milestone event to share updates on expansion projects, including the Spider-Man-themed coaster and the newly named Disney Enchanted Star Hotel, the resort’s upcoming third hotel.

Though the gala was a one-night-only special event, we were lucky enough to visit the resort in time for the show and recorded the whole thing, which you can watch right here from WDWNT:
