During a recent visit to Universal Studios Hollywood, we checked in on the progress for several Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) houses under construction.

HHN Houses Progress

Located across from Mel’s Diner, our first look at one of the HHN houses currently in development is the same location that has been used for the Monstruos houses in previous years.

Since our last update, exterior facade work appears to now be complete on this house. The building is covered in a distressed wood exterior with clay roof tiles. The pairs of windows on either side of the archway appear to be “broken,” and there is decorative balcony railing in front of the archway. From a certain angle, one might say this house resembles a skull face.

A large tent can be spotted behind the building facade, and the surrounding construction walls continue to block the work progress from view.

Nearby, a walkway has been blocked off with gates and decorative green hedges, but we could still see equipment being set up behind it.

Looking down at developments behind Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride, we can see an unfinished white facade featuring a tall central doorway, several irregular window openings, decorative columns, and curved architectural elements. Work tents, equipment, and a green lift remain positioned around the set.

A wider view reveals a sizable staging area across from the white facade, encompassing the same area that recently hosted new Jurassic Park elements. Lumber, wall panels, pallets, crates, carts, and other scenic-construction materials have been arranged throughout the lot as crews continue preparing additional event elements.

Several wooden shipping crates and racks are gathered along the retaining wall. Other materials include metal frames, stacks of lumber, rolling equipment, and pieces wrapped or covered for storage.

Behind Transformers: The Ride-3D, a long black tent structure has been erected beside Stage 16. Construction lifts, utility vehicles, crates, and additional equipment surround the temporary building. A pointed canopy with red and yellow stripes rises above one end of the structure.

Black fencing conceals much of another event space behind Transformers: The Ride-3D, though the upper portion of a colorful carnival-inspired structure remains visible. Its striped red, yellow, and green panels and peaked roofline stand out above the perimeter walls. Large dark tent structures have also been installed beside the neighboring soundstage.

From elsewhere on the Lower Lot, behind Jurassic World – The Ride, new temporary structures appear as dark, windowless buildings positioned behind existing backstage facilities. Metal crowd-control barricades have already been placed outside, potentially in preparation for the queues that will serve the houses.

The suspected funeral home house is largely hidden beneath a broad gray tent. Only the roof is visible from this angle, with the hillside and portions of the Starway rising behind it.

A freestanding plywood entrance has also been constructed nearby. The facade has a wide rectangular opening beneath a tall, stepped roofline, while black fencing and scrim conceal most of the work taking place behind it.

Construction is also underway along the Terror Tram route. New walls and scenic pieces are visible behind temporary fencing near the existing backlot buildings. One prominent gray structure has been built just a few yards from the nearby Bates Motel sign.

Around the Bates Motel, crews have assembled a much larger series of reddish-brown plywood walls. Multiple doorways, intersecting rooms, and corridors are already taking shape, suggesting guests will pass through a substantial enclosed section during this year’s Terror Tram experience. Some walls rise higher than others, likely allowing for varied scenes and transitions throughout the route.

Additional views reveal more temporary walls and partially assembled sets extending through the backlot. Black and red scenic flats, lumber, equipment, and construction materials are clustered between the permanent building facades.

The HHN houses that have been announced for this year so far include Dead, Deader, Deadest; Sinners; Stranger Things; Hellraiser; and Evil Dead Burn.
