For their 15th annual Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Studios Japan will introduce their most extreme horror experience yet: “Afterimage,” a “hopeless, inescapable” attraction rated for guests 18+ and requiring a waiver. Universal Studios Japan has released new details about the experience.
Afterimage at Halloween Horror Nights
“Afterimage” is the first house in Halloween Horror Nights history to be rated R18, a Japanese film classification equivalent to R in the U.S. Only guests 18+ who sign the waiver will be admitted. It will be 1,900 yen to enter, and tickets go on sale July 27. The house will be open from 10 a.m. to park closing at Stage 18.
Symbolizing the unprecedented terror of the 15th Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Japan, “Afterimage” puts guests through extreme situations of isolation and confinement as they visit a facility that studies nightmares. Described as an “abnormal space where the boundary between hallucination and reality blurs,” the house will present a “real hell” of “heinous acts that one desperately wants to escape from.”
Actor and singer Takumi Kitamura stars in a new 30-second commercial for Halloween Horror Nights in which a college student consults an AI about what to do. The AI responds, “Well, why don’t you try despairing?” Kitamura’s character is dragged into the world of Halloween Horror Nights, finding himself trapped in “Afterimage,” Resident Evil: Requiem – The Dive, and the “Street Zombies” experience.
A limited-time Express Pass offering will include guaranteed entry to “Afterimage,” and one-time priority access to Factory of Fear ~Zombie Tour of Despair~, Jurassic Park: The Ride in the Dark, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
The Express Pass will start at 11,800 yen, depending on the date of entry. It will go on sale on July 27.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Japan will run from September 11 through November 8, 2026. Read more about autumn events at the park.
