The cover art for the album was created by Sam Mangakahia, a Polynesian master carver.

Dwayne Johnson also performs a new song, “Your Dad”, dedicating it to his daughters. The album is executive-produced by Johnson, his wife Lauren Hashian, Kayla Fa’amaligi, and Tiana Nonosina Liufau.

Johnson on the album:

“Our #1 goal with this album was to create a global opportunity for Polynesian artists to share their beautiful voices, powerful mana, and shine,” “As you’ll hear, every artist delivers dynamic performances that represent multiple genres. Several of our Pasifika islands are represented and while emanating immense cultural pride, their artistry & sounds show that great music has always had the power to bring ALL people together.”

Live-Action ‘Moana’

Released on July 10, less than two years after the animated Moana 2 grossed over $1 billion, live-action Moana is behind projections. Opening weekend for Live-Action ‘Moana’ only earned $43M in the U.S. and Canada, and a worldwide total of $95M.

At the time of writing, live-action Moana has grossed roughly $188 million worldwide, tracking well behind its $370 million budget comprised of $250 million in production and $120 million in marketing costs.

The original animated Moana was released Thanksgiving week 2016 and made $2.6 on Tuesday previews, which was the highest-ever preview opening for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film at the time. It brought in $56.6 million on its traditional 3-day opening weekend in the United States and $82 million over its full 5-day Thanksgiving debut. It ultimately grossed $248.7M in the U.S. and Canada and a global total of $687.2M.
