The entrances to the future Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are taking shape. Scaffolding has gone up in several areas and work continues on transforming Restaurantosaurus into a hacienda.
Tropical Americas Construction

The pair of concrete columns that went up last month now have scaffolding around them. These are located at the northern entrance of the land, near Theater in the Wild. They aren’t in concept art or the Tropical America model, so we don’t know what exactly they will look like when completed.

Shorter concrete elements are in place behind one of the columns, creating more columns and walls. The uneven tops of the walls suggest they may be designed to look like old partially collapsing structures. Unlike the tall entrance columns, these may correspond to structures on the land’s model.

In the above image, a square archway and a rounded archway are visible along the pathway at the bottom. The new concrete walls may be the beginnings of these elements.

The other entrance to the land has had a steel tower and peaked roof framework for several weeks now, but there haven’t been significant changes in this area. This will be the main entrance from Discovery Island.
In the background of the above photos, you can see that the old brown shingles have been removed from a Restaurantosaurus rooftop. Blue weather-proof sheathing is now visible instead.

The same is true of the former Trilo-Bites snack stand. The snack stand had its signage and a section of red wall paneling removed a while ago, but removal of the singles only happened recently. The sheathing on this roof and Restaurantosaurus may be new.

Beyond Trilo-Bites, there’s more new scaffolding between the carousel site and the former Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures. There’s also a concrete form visible between two steel supports of the carousel structure.

On the north side of the carousel is a new wooden framework. This could be for the carousel’s queue. It corresponds to the long brown roof next to the carousel’s round roof in the Tropical Americas model, below.

Tropical Americas includes a carousel of wood-carved Disney characters, an Encanto ride, and an Indiana Jones ride (formerly DINOSAUR). It’s scheduled to open in 2027.
