Permit May Hint at Typhoon Lagoon Water Park Expansion

Walt Disney World filed a permit with the South Florida Water Management District for a “Typhoon Lagoon Backstage Parking Lot,” hinting at a possible expansion to the water park.

WDWMagic shared details of the permit, which covers a backstage area north of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon near 1199 E Buena Vista Drive. It includes construction of a new driveway and gate, fenced-in gravel lot, sidewalk, two dry retention ponds, and treatment swales for stormwater management.

The addition of a parking lot, whether backstage or not, could mean Disney is planning to expand the water park with a new ride, entertainment, or something else yet to be announced.

That said, the lot could just be addressing an existing parking issue. Typhoon Lagoon’s guest parking frequently hits capacity and guests are then directed to the Cast Member parking lot or even grass parking. Maybe the new backstage parking will become the permanent Cast Member lot and the existing Cast Member lot will open to guests.

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are both open this summer, with Typhoon Lagoon hosting H2O Glow After Hours. Typhoon lagoon will be closed for the fall and winter starting on September 9.
