Walt Disney Imagineering Files Carousel of Progress Permit with Scenic Design Firm

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a Notice of Commencement for “General construction” at Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom. Though the description of work doesn’t give us details, the contractor is a scenic design firm.

Imagineering has hired Mecca Productions, “a full-service design, fabrication, and installation firm,” according to their website. They “create props and scenery that align with the level of quality that has come to be expected of the world’s most notable themed entertainment venues.”

Disney fans have seen plenty of Mecca Productions’ work in the parks. Most recently, they worked on the new Toy Story Land snack kiosk and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. They have also been hired for the Indiana Jones ride and Encanto ride coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Other Carousel of Progress permits contract Icarus Exhibits and ThemeWorks for the installation of sets. Another permit contracts Southeastern Construction & Maintenance, Inc., a structural steel fabricator.

Carousel of Progress closed last week for a major reimagining. Its timeline will shift forward and a new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic will introduce the ride.
