With over 100 reviews already in, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is sitting high on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Opening on July 31, the latest story in the Spider-Man franchise has received overwhelmingly positive early reviews. At the time of writing, Brand New Day was sitting at 88% on the Tomatometer with 102 reviews, though it was at 89% earlier this morning (July 28).
Reuben Baron’s pull quote from Looper says, “It’s on par with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the top tier of post-Avengers: Endgame Marvel movies, and it’s my favorite live-action Spider-Man movie since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 all the way back in 2004.”
Jesse Hassenger of AV Club also harkens back to Spider-Man 2: “If it’s not especially close to the majesty of Spider-Man 2 (and lacks the delirious highs of Spider-Man 3), it’s also pretty handily the best MCU Spider-Man movie since Homecoming.”
Other critics aren’t as convinced. David Fear at Rolling Stone, for example, says, “The movie keeps getting tangled in a complicated web of its own making, one that feels all too familiar after several decades of superhero cinema sucking up the cultural oxygen.”
In any case, time will tell whether the score stays in the high 80s or dips as more reviews come in.
Brand New Day is currently tracking to have the biggest opening weekend of 2026 so far. According to Boxoffice Pro, Spidey’s next Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure is projected to earn between $230 million and $250 million during its first weekend in North American theaters.
Either end of that range would easily surpass the year’s current record holder, Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, which debuted with approximately $160 million domestically in June.
