Disney’s latest filing for Piston Peak National Park, a future Cars area at Magic Kingdom, is an extension of a permit that expired in June.

Piston Peak National Park Construction Permit

Filed by Walt Disney Imagineering, the permit is for 4975 Caribbean Way, the former address of Tom Sawyer Island. The permit description reads, “Demo, infrastructure prep and utility modification” and it contracts NorthStar Contracting Group, Inc.

This permit was initially filed in June 2025 and was set to expire one year later. With the permit re-filed on July 23, 2026, it’s now good until July 2027.

The extension indicates work on the former Tom Sawyer Island utilities and infrastructure is still ongoing, even though the island has been completely demolished. As we shared in a recent aerial update from photographer bioreconstruct, crews continue to reshape the land for Piston Peak National Park.

Piston Peak is an addition to Frontierland, rather than its own land. It will include an off-road rally race ride and a family-friendly attraction. It features the new original car character Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore, inspired by the classic Disney cartoon character Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore.
