‘Wish’ Advertisement Featuring Star Plays on the Las Vegas Sphere

The Sphere entertainment venue in Las Vegas has garnered international attention since opening earlier this year thanks to its unique architecture and innovative concept. The exterior of the 366-foot structure is wrapped in nearly 600,000 square feet of LED screens that can play immersive videos and advertisements; The Walt Disney Company recently used Sphere to advertise the release of “The Marvels,” and it’s again used the venue to promote “Wish,” the newest Walt Disney Animation Studios feature that’s set to release on November 22.

A brief advertisement for “Wish” started to play at Sphere earlier this week. The official Disney Animation X account shared a brief clip of the display on November 8.

The advertisement starts with the “Wish” logo set against a star-filled night sky. “Only In Theaters November 22” appears beneath the wordmark. “I’m A Star,” a Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice-penned song from the new film’s soundtrack, plays in the background.

Star, a supporting character from the new feature, then spirals onto Sphere, landing with his back to the audience before slowly (and comically) turning to the camera.

Star then waves before expanding. He takes up most of the exterior of the venue as he waves to people passing by.

Star then starts to fly around the structure, ultimately touching it and causing the displayed imagery to reverberate. The character then flies off-screen.

The “Wish” wordmark again dominates the frame before Star floats back into view. He flies to the top of Sphere and ignites like a firework, sending smaller yellow stars around the exterior of the venue.

“Wish” is an animated musical that uses a mix of traditional and 3D animation. The film follows Asha (Ariana Debose), a sharp-witted idealist who makes a wish upon a star that changes the fate of her entire kingdom. The movie also features Chris Pine as King Magnifico and Alan Tudyk as Valentino, a talking goat.

The film is directed by Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen II”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) from a script penned by Buck, Allison Moore (“Night Sky”), and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee (who also worked on both “Frozen” films). According to its directors, “Wish” will feature several legacy nods to films from the Walt Disney Animation Studios library.

Promotion for the new film has been prevalent throughout the past several weeks. In mid-October, Disney announced intentions to release a song from the film each Wednesday until its release; “This Wish,” “This Is The Thanks I Get?!,” “Welcome to Rosas,” and “I’m A Star” are the tracks that have been previewed thus far.

Asha debuted as a meet-and-greet character at EPCOT on November 1, with a new collection of “Wish” merchandise landing at Walt Disney World Resort a few days later. A “Wish”-themed light show will debut on the exterior of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT on November 22 to coincide with the film’s release.

Asha will make her way to Disneyland Park as a meet-and-greet character on November 22. She will also debut at Disneyland Paris at some point in the future.

What do you think of the new Star-centric advertisement playing on the exterior of Sphere? Will you be checking out “Wish” when it releases in theaters later this month? Let us know in the comments.
