The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Theater Becomes ‘Cool Zone’ at Universal Islands of Adventure

The Universal Islands of Adventure theater that once featured “The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad” is now a “Cool Zone” where guests can relax and drink water.

A-frame signs in The Lost Continent point guests to the “Cool Zone” entrance.

A paved path curves through lush greenery and trees, bordered by low stone walls on both sides.

“The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad” closed permanently in 2018 and the theater has not been used since, except as a U-Rest area in 2020. Construction walls went up at the theater in 2022, but a new show never reopened, and the Sindbad set remains abandoned on the stage.

There is some black scrim blocking access to the stage and most of the theater seating. But nothing is actually blocked from view.

There are two water bottle refill stations, but only one was working when we visited on Friday. There are also some large trash cans.

Guests are allowed to sit in the show’s former “Splash Zone.” There are some outlets available under the benches if you need to charge your phone.

Keep in mind that even though this is a “Cool Zone,” there is no air conditioning or fans. It’s shaded but still hot.

The theater is also pretty dirty (being abandoned for seven years will do that to a place).

A team member stationed at the theater said that it will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. daily. They said it will be available through the end of the summer, although they weren’t sure exactly when that would be.
