Disney Files Construction Permit for Aunt Polly’s at Tom Sawyer Island

Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for the demolition of Aunt Polly’s at Tom Sawyer Island in Magic Kingdom.

The Notice of Commencement is for “General construction” at 4975C Caribbean Way, the address of Aunt Polly’s. The former restaurant is expected to be torn down for the park’s Cars expansion.

The permit contracts Phillips & Jordan, Inc. As is standard for construction permits, it expires in one year.

Construction is already underway on Tom Sawyer Island, which closed permanently in early July. The “Tom (hearts) Becky” fence near Aunt Polly’s and several props have been removed from the island.

Magic Kingdom Cars Expansion

The permanent closure of Tom Sawyer Island, Liberty Square Riverboat, and Rivers of America was to make way for a Cars expansion to Frontierland. The new Piston Peak National Park area is inspired by the Rocky Mountains. Designed with sightlines in mind, the area will connect to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and provide a new walkway straight from The Haunted Mansion to the new Disney Villains land. Piston Peak will have water features and barrel bridges as homages to Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. There will be two attractions, including a rally race ride.

Disney Villains Land

A fantastical landscape reveals a dark castle amid jagged rocks and glowing lights, with waterfalls cascading under a colorful sky. Birds, as if granted a special permit, soar gracefully in the distance.

Less is known about the Disney Villains land, but it will also have two attractions, shopping, and dining. Disney has shared concept art and a list of villains who inspire the land. Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro teased the land’s backstory at D23 Brazil.
