Despite Disney shifting resort-guest-exclusive Extra Magic Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios into the evening, guest relations cast members at the park informed us that Rise of the Resistance will not be available to guests partaking in the offering. The rest of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be open.
It would seem that Disney shifted the morning Extra Magic Hours away to avoid confusion with the already hectic rope drop procedures where all guests must obtain a boarding pass to ride Rise of the Resistance that day. Boarding passes for the popular new attraction are usually gone by 7:30-8:00am. Guests at the first Extra Magic Hours morning after Rise opens we’re given little advantage other than already being in the park when boarding group availability opened on the app.
Anybody else here book one of the resorts for spring thinking there would still be extra extra early morning magic hours?
With all the complicated mechanisms and tech in play on this attraction, it makes sense that mechanics would be swarming over it at night. So while it’s inconvenient for guests, they probably need the time for tweaks, fixes and safety checks, especially in these early weeks of full-capacity runs.
Realistically, if they continue to use boarding groups, it’s almost a meaningless announcement. The main implication of saying a ride is not available for extra magic hours is that you cannot enter the line once the park closes. However, since there is no queue to join, it really doesn’t matter. Theoretically, they could shut down the ride at closing time even if there are remaining boarding groups. However, I sincerely doubt they would do so and more likely will continue to try to finish all boarding groups during extra magic hours if necessary.
