“Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” easily took the #1 spot at the domestic box office bringing in $176 million. “The Rise Of Skywalker” also brought in $198 million globally, bringing its worldwide total at the box office to $374 million.
This debut for “The Rise Of Skywalker” makes it the worst performing of the three movies in this new Star Wars trilogy. “The Force Awakens” had an opening weekend of $248 million, and “The Last Jedi” brought in $220 million for its opening weekend.
Disney had projected that the film would open with $165 million. This amount seemed rather low compared to most estimates made by analysts, who were expecting around a $200 million debut.
It appears that negative reviews and word of mouth for “The Rise Of Skywalker” may have negatively impacted its performance at the box office. Most of its box office returns came from Friday screenings, which normally does not occur for a Star Wars movie.
Meanwhile, “Frozen 2” is still going strong and came in third with $12.3 million for its fifth week in theaters. “Frozen 2” is another big hit for Disney. So far, the movie has made $387 million domestically, with and addition $717 million internationally, resulting in a worldwide box office total of $1.104 billion.

I was pleasantly surprised, this was a really good Star Wars movie. There’s nothing like the “feel” of a Star Wars movie and this one definitely had that “feel” back. I thought that was going to be lost since that last movie. But Disney got the message it seems. Taking the whole family again after Christmas. And the kids are actually interested in Star Wars toys again! Making me proud. Hahaha.
