Disney has always made a point of reducing food waste, donating to causes like Second Harvest among others. During the temporary closure of Disney Parks in response to Coronavirus, that commitment to donating excess food inventory will continue. Many people will be impacted in the coming weeks by closures, hour reductions, or overall job shutdowns, so these donations will mean more now than ever.
According to Disney Parks Blog, Disney will follow strict food safety guidelines when donating excess foods:
“While closely following food safety guidelines, excess inventory of dairy, fruit, vegetables, packaged goods and banquet meals is being donated Second Harvest Food Bank, whose mission is to end hunger in Orange County.”
Disneyland Resort has donated over 20,000 meals to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County seeing their own in house, Disney VoluntEARS regularly volunteer at the food bank. Although the Disney Parks around the world will be temporarily put on hold, Disney’s mission to aid local communities continues.
