Disneyland Paris reopened for Annual Passholders today, and guests got to ride the brand new Cars Road Trip attraction in Walt Disney Studios Park. Cars Road Trip replaces Studio Tram Tour: Behind the Magic—the Paris version of the Studio Backlot Tour from Disney’s Hollywood Studios—and fans may recognize some familiar elements.
Signage is posted in Toy Story Playland to point guests to the new attraction in a dead end. The sign fits since it is near RC Racer.
Many guests were waiting in line for the attraction first thing this morning. To one side of the queue is a long fence to separate it from a construction area.
Even the trash cans have been themed for Cars Road Trip.
The entrance is made to look (kind of) like the Cozy Cone Motel from Cars.
Guests may spot a few easter eggs inside this booth.
On the back wall are posters for “The Ghost Garage”, the World’s Largest Lugnut, and more.
The attraction was open, although the sign said “closed.”
Tail lights line the ceiling of the queue. Disneyland Paris is still practicing physical distancing, with large markers in the queue and Plexiglass separating guests.
Though the name might suggest otherwise, guests board the old trams for Cars Road Trip.
There is Plexiglass mounted on the seatbacks of the tram as well to keep guests safe and some rows are left empty.
The trams are the same from Studio Tram Tour but repainted.
There’s a screen inside each tram car.
The rows being left empty are roped off with a “cone”.
Some of the “world’s largest” items are found throughout the attraction.
Lightning McQueen drives through the world’s largest lugnut, with Luigi and Guido at either side.
Next up was the world’s largest road map, the backside of show buildings in the Ratatouille area.
We got a glimpse at these billboards a few days ago thanks to Walt Disney Imagineer Kevin Lively.
The attraction’s main show scene is “Cars-tastrophe Canyon.”
Here, guests will see a Dinoco truck take part in another “roadside attraction”.
More Dinoco-branded oil cans are on the other side of the tram.
People who remember the tram tour’s Catastrophe Canyon probably know what’s coming here in “Cars-tastrophe” Canyon.
The canyon lives up to its name with a few well-timed catastrophes.
After things calm down, the tram leaves the canyon.
It’s then time to see Mater and some of his sculptures.
Mater is next to a homemade version of the Eiffel Tower, the I-Fuel Tower.
Fillmore is also nearby.
Before the ride ends, we’re reminded to slow down and enjoy the open road.
The exit and entrance are the same station.

so they basically re-used the same ride that was here years ago.
Unfortunately, as someone who has seen the original ride, this looks like a missed opportunity… maybe a few real animatronics and a better storyline would help. This greatly lowers my expectations for the outcome of their Avengers campus.
Clearly a quick makeover on a tight budget, a lack of storyline, animation and Disney sparkle result in an attraction very little better than what it replaced. It would seem that most of the budget was spent on the queue area revamp and the plentiful tree planting. Let’s hope that forthcoming attractions at the Studios are a great deal better!
