Construction walls are down on the first section of the walkway to Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland, revealing a peculiar sight.
Rather than matching the brickwork in Fantasyland, the walkway is now a reddish-brown pavement pressed into a brick pattern.
Above, you can see how the patterns differ by the edge of the new pavement.
Previously, the pavement was a very dark gray, as evidenced in this photo from roughly two weeks ago:
While it seems to clash with its surroundings in Fantasyland, the new pattern seems to better reflect the municipal theme of Toontown. Hopefully, with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway coming down the line, this whimsical area gets to look its best very soon.

It’s not pavement, they are actual bricks.. do you guys not even look at your own reporting? https://wdwnt.com/2021/09/photos-work-continues-on-toontown-entrance-walkway-refurbishment-project/
They’re not, look closely at the rebar.
Yes I agree, you can tell they are “stamped concrete”.
Overall that is a bonehead and “penny wise and pound foolish” decision.
Real pavers and bricks do cost more both in materials and labor to put in initially however they will last much longer than concrete will. With concrete comes cracking, water issues (no permeation of water resulting in puddles) and deteriorating over time. With bricks or pavers it is more about simple patching when needed, or every couple of years the need to add more “perma-sand” into the joints. So the year-over-year cost and maintenance is usually much lower than concrete.
(That’s decades of watching This Old House information!)
Note to Tom:
Turns out we were wrong!
Fresh Baked put up a video today (Sept. 16) and showed that area being worked on and it is indeed pavers!
I walked on it, didn’t look like pavers lol
Your are right!! See me new comment below!
