Last night, we were lucky enough to be at just the right place in line to be in the very last full car of guests ever on The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Of course, I filmed the entire experience to share with you! Enjoy:

On a personal note, The Great Movie Ride was my second favorite attraction ever after the original Journey Into Imagination, so these last few days have meant a lot to me. I was overwhelmed by the success of the private event we held inside the attraction on Friday, and even more overwhelmed by everyone who came up to me or my parents just to say what a good time they had. Playing some small role in providing a proper and memorable farewell for other people who also loved this ride means so much to me and is a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you to everyone who came to that event and helped to make it happen, and thank you to the Great Movie Ride for 28 years of wonderful memories with family and friends.

Of course, I’ll share more of my experience at the farewell and our event this week on WDW News Tonight. We’ll see you at the movies!

  1. GMR was one of my all-time favorite rides, too. The Mickey Minnie ride sounds interesting, but I wonder if it will be a… what’s the word – grandiose? enough ride to be the center-piece ride of DH (the Star Wars and Toy Story Lands will be off to the side). Plus, GMR was kind of a big long ride. Will the Mickey Minnie ride be long/large enough to fill the space GMR filled? GMR was able to pull it off, in part because it was so diverse – every scene was a different show with lots of fascinating detail. Perhaps the Mickey Minnie ride won’t use as much space as GMR, and they’ll use the remaining space for something else? Just some thoughts.

  2. Her last official line was

“On behalf of all of us, we’ll see you at the movies.”

Since this was the ultimate ride on GMR, I could’ve seen her say “on behalf of all of us, the theatre is now closed”

  3. After seeing the crowds last night it was abundantly clear that the Great Movie Ride was loved by so many people. This classic attraction was the focal point of a once amazing theme park. This park has fallen victim to individuals, who see the bottom line as the end all be all. Their lack of vision is dumbfounding. I will agree that the Great Movie Ride was in need of an update but to remove it completely makes no sense, especially with all the construction that’s already going on in the park.

The final hours of the Great Movie Ride were simply amazing. Hundreds of Great Movie Ride fans stood outside the attraction, waiting in hopes of catching one of the last rides. Everyone was reminiscing about the memories they had of this beloved attraction. At the end of the night there were guests and cast members crying as they saw the doors of the Great Movie Ride close for the final time.

I would like to personally thank the cast members of the Great Movie Ride. Their passion for the attraction and their roles was evident each and every time I visited. It was a very heartfelt night and it was an honor to be one of the last people to ride this attraction. In my humble opinion it was a huge mistake removing this attraction and this park will never be the same.

  4. I find it quite appalling the lack of protests against the closing of the wonderful Great Movie Ride. Most of the readers of this site along with the clowns that run it should hang their heads in shame……but then again that would require self awareness, something that is lacking of people of lesser intelligence.

    • You do know that you aren’t very good at this whole fake outrage thing right? It’s obvious trolling at a third grade level.

Keep up the good work Pete.

  5. Was I missing something, or was that last car only about half full? I would have thought it would be packed with every square inch taken.
