Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a new video looking at some of the details of Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana,” currently under construction at EPCOT.
In the video embedded above or available here, Imagineer Christopher talks about walking the construction site to check on the details of the attraction. He describes Journey of Water as “an exploration trail that allows you to follow the water cycle while also getting to know water itself and its fun, playful personality.”
The walkthrough attraction is made up of water features built into fake rockwork. The rocks are covered in fake plants and moss, and feature some Easter egg carvings.
Guests will enter near a tall section of rock featuring Te Fiti’s swirl. They will encounter Te Fiti herself in the form of a 16-foot-tall statue, featured prominently in the new video.
Disney also shared a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Te Fiti. Watch that video below.
Reid Ekman, Lead Concept Designer at Walt Disney Imagineering, wrote on Disney Parks Blog, “The development of Te Fiti and her pose was a close collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios and its Creative Legacy team. As guests walk along the trail, they will come across Te Fiti, who is seen protecting water as it travels through the water cycle.”
“Along with Moana as a steward of water conservation, Te Fiti is a symbol of how we should protect and nurture water wherever we find it. This is an important theme in Journey of Water, where guests will learn more about how water travels from our skies to the ocean, and back again. This story will unfold along a lush trail inspired by the environments and art style of the beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios film.”
“The World Nature neighborhood is dedicated to the awe and wonder of our natural world, and we are excited to continue that theme within Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. This will be a place where guests can engage with water and learn more about the impact we have on our natural world. We will even learn how to become better stewards of nature just like Moana!”
Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” is scheduled to open this fall. It’s visible in this concept art that also features glimpses of the World Celebration gardens and CommuniCore Hall.
Here’s a zoomed-in look at Journey of Water. Te Fiti can be seen at the center, looking over a pool of water. The orb-shaped lanterns hang throughout, and water jumps across pathways to the right.
