Since the Tokyo Disney Resort launched its e-ticketing system on its official app in 2018, the function has been limited to Japanese speakers with a Japanese credit or debit card. But now nearly five years after its launch, the Oriental Land Company has finally made ticket purchases available in English to foreign tourists!
The process is quite simple. Simply open the Tokyo Disney Resort App and touch “Buy Tickets”
Tickets are only available in English for dates from April 1, 2023 onward. Guests visiting between now and March 31 are still subject to the old rules — tickets must be purchased either in Japanese with a Japanese credit card on the app, or must be purchased at other authorized locations such as the Disney Hotels or convenience stores in Japan. Tickets purchased for March 31 and before with a foreign credit card will not be displayed on the app and must be printed or show the QR code in the reservation confirmation email.
Next, select the number of people. As of now, only one-day tickets are available and Multi-Day Passports have not been reintroduced for sale.
You must then choose your park. For tickets dated April 1, 2023 onward, guests may not change which park their ticket is valid at, only the date on which it is valid. So tickets for Tokyo Disneyland may only be used at Tokyo Disneyland and may not be changed to Tokyo DisneySea.
An availability calendar will be displayed. You can also switch to a price display, but it will not display the actual price, just between one and four ¥ symbols for which of the four price tiers applies.
Next you select the type of ticket. The most commonly used will of course be the 1-Day Passport. Weeknight Passports and Early Evening Passports are at the bottom of the list.
Select your ticket, then enter your credit card information. Simple as that! Your ticket will be displayed on the app and already available to use for Entry Request lottery entries and Disney Premier Access purchases.
Tokyo Disney Resort stopped selling tickets at the park ticket booths after reopening from its COVID-19 closure on July 1, 2020, and guests since have been required to purchase tickets either through the official app or at convenience stores across the country, all in Japanese. Tickets were available in English via the Tokyo Disney Resort Reservations website, but until April 1, 2023, tickets purchased with a non-Japanese card are unable to be displayed in the app until being manually scanned in after park entry, although the reasoning behind this has always been unclear.
Switching the app from Japanese to English would also disable the ticket purchase functionality entirely until now. Tickets shared by others would be displayed if the guest was part of a group, but otherwise new tickets were unavailable in the app.
Foreign credit cards were also locked out of the Tokyo Disney Resort ticketing system entirely (but not hotels or Vacation Packages) from around August 2020 until early this year, based on our own experience as well as reports from others.
