Just as Plaza de la Familia festivities commence at Disney California Adventure, a new “Coco”-inspired Loungefly backpack is available at the park. We spotted a new bag featuring Miguel during a recent trip to Disney California Adventure.
We found this backpack at Elias & Co. on Buena Vista Street, which serves as the main entryway to Disney California Adventure. It can also be found at Knick’s Knacks in the Pixar Pier section of the park.
“Coco” Loungfly Mini Backpack – $78
The bag is white and is adorned by embroidered and printed flowers throughout. Numerous types of flowers, including marigolds, the flower most commonly associated with Día de los Muertos, are depicted. They all vary in color.
Miguel is printed in the center of the bag in skull form, and a Loungfly plaque is attached above his head. The bag’s front pocket is white with a black outline.
More marigolds and general flowers are printed on each side of the bag. Black detailing is present throughout, with black stripes surrounding the bag’s bronze zipper. The Loungfuly logo appears on each zipper pull.
The printed flowers envelop the base of the bag and stretch to its otherwise plain white back. A strip of black fabric has been stitched at the top of the back of the bag, matching the black handle and back straps that emerge from it.
The interior of the bag is lined in black fabric and features imagery from the film, including flowers, plants, and guitar-strumming skeletons. This bag is also available in the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT in Walt Disney World Resort.
Plaza de la Familia
Plaza de la Familia is an annual “Coco”-inspired Día de los Muertos celebration at Disney California Adventure. The offering is described by the Disneyland website as “an immersive celebration of the everlasting bonds of family” and is located in the Paradise Gardens Park section of the park. This year’s celebration runs from September 1–November 2.
Paradise Gardens Park receives a “Coco” and general Día de los Muertos-themed overlay for Plaza de la Familia. At Plaza de le Familia, guests can commemorate their own familial connections by writing an anecdote and leaving it near the statue of Árbol de la Vida, or the Tree of Life. They can also partake in a crafting session and watch “A Musical Celebration of Coco,” a live performance that features singing, dancing, and life-size puppets that is performed eight times daily. You can watch our video of a full performance here:
Event-inspired food is also ushered in by Plaza de la Familia. Specialty food and souvenirs are offered at Disney California Adventure during the celebration, with some unique options even appearing at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. You can check out a full list of specialty items here.
