Awesome Planet EPCOT

Immerse yourself in a stunning 10-minute film featuring spectacular imagery from across the globe.

“If you were looking for the perfect home, this would be it!”

Found on the upper level of The Land pavilion, Awesome Planet is a somewhat-educational film about the makeup and biomes of Earth. The film’s premise is set up as a sales pitch of how and why our planet came to be, its ability to up its value as it evolves over time, and the dangers that modern society present that slows or destroys those upgrades via pollution and damaging changes caused by manufacturing, construction, and more importantly, destruction. The film is dotted with special lighting and sound effects at the proper motions, which may cause some audience members to jump ever-so-slightly in their seats, but there’s nothing here that will truly frighten younger viewers. If there is any attraction at EPCOT that will divide an audience, it’s this film that points fingers at big industries and shoves a lot of blame on climate change on their specific practices. Some guests will find the film interesting and educational while others will simply guffaw and call it Greenie propaganda. Most guests will skip the attraction altogether, which is too bad, because even though it’s a bit off-balance in its presentation, it has some beautiful images from even the hard-to-reach areas of the world.

Behind the Schemes:

Awesome Planet is the third film to occupy the Harvest Theater. The original movie, Symbiosis, was a fascinating glimpse at how nature’s components attempt to work together to reach a balance where everything can survive and help to maintain a level of consistency in that balance so the world can work at an optimum level. Symbiosis was then replaced by another nature film, Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable which featured characters from The Lion King, making this attraction the first EPCOT attraction to feature outside Disney IP characters as the primary focus.

Reality Check:

The film is narrated by actor Ty Burrell, who many will recognize from his role, Phil, on the hit TV series Modern Family. He also voiced the beluga whale, Bailey, in the film Finding Dory.

The walls in the lobby for Awesome Planet are still covered in carpet, which is perfect for guests looking for a relaxing tactile moment with something soft and fuzzy during a hectic day at the park. Take that anxiety and rub it out.
