CONFIRMED: TRON Lightcycle Power Run Coming to Magic Kingdom; Will Open by 50th Anniversary – D23 Expo 2017 News

As we confirmed to our readers this past Monday, five days before Disney’s official announcement, the TRON Lightcycle Power Run coaster from Shanghai Disneyland will be coming to the Magic Kingdom, and will open in time for the park’s 50th anniversary in 2021. WDWNT initially reported this rumor in October of 2016, and then again this past April we reported that budget teams were sent to Shanghai to look at the attraction.

A thrilling, Tron-themed attraction will be added in a new area near Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom.

Although we reported that the attraction will take the place of the Tomorrowland Speedway, it was confirmed today that the Tomorrowland Speedway will remain intact, and the coaster will be located in a new area behind Space Mountain. It appears from the concept art that access to the attraction will be via the Tomorrowland-Fantasyland walkway that currently exists.

  1. And here comes the part where Tom twists his Tron confirmed to be replacing Speedway claim.

      • Yay! Looks like I got one more on my Disney Pete Bingo Board. I had “Disney Interns used as an argument in lieu of a valid point”. All I need now is “insulting someone’s masculinity due internal feelings of impotence and uncontrollable rage” and I’ll have 5 across!!

        • If I were a betting man, I’d bet Tom has a similar bingo board on you and that square you’re waiting from me has already been filled by you in his board.

  2. Hmm, weird that I don’t see that confirmed part about it replacing the speedway. Did I miss that confirmed section of the announcement? Or am I confirmed to be mistaken? Can anyone confirm that for me?

  3. I am a hardcore Disney fan through and through who loves reading about anything Disney related regardless of what site it comes from. With that being said it amazes me how so many of you look for opportunity to ridicule someone. Yes this site did say say Tron was CONFIRMED and to that end they were correct. Their original report also did say it would replace Tomorrowland Speedway but it did NOT say that was CONFIRMED. Maybe some of you should not be so quick to judge and criticize but rather read the articles for what they are…. information entertainment. Without them and others we would know nothing. Come to think of it, I don’t see any of you sticking your necks out there to give us the scoop on the inner working of Disney.

    • Here is the exact headline:
“CONFIRMED: TRON Lightcycle Power Run Rollercoaster to Replace Tomorrowland Speedway at the Magic Kingdom”

So what you’re saying is that the all caps confirmed only applies to the words TRON Lightcycle Power Run Rollercoaster at the Magic Kingdom, and to Replace Tomorrowlans Speedway is not part of the confirmation?

It is a misleading headline, pure and simple. Yes in the article Tom never says that the Speedway is definitely 100% leaving, but anyone reading the headline is instantly under the impression that it is confirmed.

If Tom really thinks he’s an investigative journalist, than the least he should do is have some journalistic integrity.

      • I digress and admit the headline is a little misleading, but I stand on my point that this site is only attempting to give us news as quickly and accurately as they can. There is absolutely no need to focus only on what was inaccurate. That is just being trivial.

        • I posted in the comment section if they were sure about the speedway was going to and recheck their sources because other sources was saying speedway was being overhauled.

          They didn’t respond to that.

    • I completely disagree. The headline they wrote was simply false. When you put “CONFIRMED” at the start of your headline then the rest of the headline and ensuing story has to be true, not “somewhat” true. It pains me to see that journalism has devolved into a state of pumping out the quickest clickbait stories and taking no accountability for the content being wrong or misleading, usually just blaming “unnamed sources” for bad info. If you want credibility you should have accountability. I hope WDW News Today will do better in the future.

  4. I can’t wait to ride Tron Lightcycle power run at the Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland. The Concept art of the Tron Next to Space Mountain is awesome. But In the concept art the train will going to through Tron or around Tron please tell me the Train is going through Tron. I’m confused!
