Rather than distribute endless numbers of bottles and soaps to every guest room at Walt Disney World (that guests would then be able to take home with them), Disney is moving towards refillable dispensers inside of the showers found in guest rooms.
The following picture was shared on the Coronado Springs Buzz Facebook page:
The picture above is from Port Orleans Riverside, featuring a locked shelf holding pump dispensers for conditioner, shampoo, and body wash.
it is unknown if this will be rolled out beyond Value and Moderate class rooms, but I imagine guests at a Deluxe Resort may be a little annoyed to find such a contraption in their rooms for the amount they are paying.
No! I need those toiletries for my unnecessarily large inventory! I cannot live without Disney branded shampoo!!!
You can buy it on the website. Seeing people with 50+ bottles of these products is ridiculous! If you can pay fir a room on Disney property you can afford to pay for shampoo, conditioner or body wash! Ridiculous!!Smh
I agree DisneyLover84!!! Snagging numerous bottles each trip is wasteful and unnecessary! This is so much more environmentally friendly. I’m a DVC member since 1993 and love this idea!
I have collected them each trip and donated them to local children’s hospitals. It brings the kids such joy. I certainly don’t consider it a waste!
They have tried this in the past at moderate and value resorts. Port Orleans used a similar setup in 1998.
hmmm…i have opinions about this.
This will be gone in less then a year when people start bringing their own bottles and pumping every last drop of it out into their own bottles so they can take it home. I says this because I’ve seen what people at DVC events do with the free stuff. They don’t take a cookie for each person to enjoy, they bring bags and load them up with handfuls of cookies to take home. They feel they’ve paid for it, so they deserve it. Same will happen with the shower soaps.
Also, why it’s locked, it’s not tamper proof.
Are you kidding me Tammie, how dare you make a statement like that. We don’t get the daily room refills like regular rooms. I have seen many pictures of how much soap is taken you full price people are raking because you feel you paid for it. It’s not a DVC thing. My kids have been trampled by adults to get to free handouts and it wasn’t at a DVC event so I would keep quiet.
You seem overly offended? Tammie is just pointing out guests can be ridiculous over free items, and they can, I have witnessed it too many a time. Tammie isn’t accusing you personally of doing that so don’t get so uppity.
Perhaps Carol doth protest too much?
“they bring bags and load them up with handfuls of cookies to take home. They feel they’ve paid for it, so they deserve it.”
That’s disgusting.
It is. Is a gut wrenching affair to watch
Are you kidding me Tammie. you do realize these were not put in DVC rooms. If it was DVC guests “stealing soap” and gorging themselves on cookies they stop the DVC special events with the “free snacks” and these would be in DVC resorts instead of moderate resorts. How dare you point a finger at a specific group of people when you have no idea. DVC doesn’t get daily mousekeeping so the soap bottles are not replenished daily. So a five day stay for me I would get two of everything and 8 day stay I would get three. On the other hand a non DVC room you get soaps replenished everyday. That’s a lot to “steal”.
They used to leave a lot more shampoo, conditioner bottles & soaps in DVC rooms. About 3x to 4x more than today. Guess why they reduced the amount of such toiletries left to DVC members?
I’ve been a DVC member since 1993 and don’t ever remember getting tons of toiletries even back then. Once in a while we might get 2 shampoos & conditioners in a bathroom but I think it was because the mousekeeper that day was in a good mood. It definitely wasn’t the norm. In a 2BR there has always been one set in the second bathroom and 2 sets in the master bath, one near the shower & one near the large tub. Keep in mind a 2BR sleeps 8 – 9 depending upon what resort so that isn’t excessive. I always pack my own or buy H2O products while there to use as those little bottles don’t always last until the next mousekeeping visit 4 days after check in. The only thing I remember them cutting out was a small bottle of sunburn aloe we got one stay and a disposable shower cap.
You are mistaken. These are in Saratoga Springs, a DVC resort.
People staying in a 2BR unit that sleeps 8 or 9 (depending upon resort) get 3 sets of shampoo, conditioner and lotion every 4 days when houskeeping comes in. One set goes in 2nd bathroom, one set goes in master shower & 3rd goes near master tub. 3 bottles of shampoo for 8 or 9 people needs to last until the next housekeeping on the 4th day of your stay so I’m not sure there is even an opportunity to accumulate tons of toiletries from a DVC room. I’ve seen pictures people post that didn’t stay at DVC bragging about the stash of maybe 50 bottles. I don’t think DVC guests are any more guilty (and maybe less) than those staying at other resorts who get housekeeping daily. I’ve also seen people at MVMCP loading zip locks with dozens of cookies and I’m pretty sure they’re not all DVC members. Not sure, Tammie, why you’re singling out DVC folks.
Great, now all guests can share the same bottle of lube in the shower.
That’s both disgusting and hilarious! And sadly, very true
That’s alright, I’ll just go to one of the numerous other hotels off property, get a better room at a cheaper rate, and steal good, name brand shampoo from the bathroom, not the overpriced repackaged walmart junk Disney stocks.
Okay.
And you’ll be stuck off property…..having a “half Disney” vacation.
The rage is real! Go to Universal and I will enjoy the room that you can’t afford!!
H2O+ isn’t cheap or repackaged Walmart junk.
H2o shampoos & conditioners are not cheap Walmart junk. They cost $20-$25 a bottle.
This was in an ada room at Port Orleans and others have posted that they are still getting bottles at the resort.
For the price you pay to stay on site this is rather mean ☹️
This is super prevalent in Europe. I used to not like it but now find it super convenient.
I don’t like this. They had these in a hotel I stayed in in Ottawa and I was immediately nervous. As a paranoid person, all I can think about is the previous guest urinating in or pouring bleach in or otherwise tampering with these bottles. Very unlikely and would take a special kind of evil person, but it only takes one incident to hit Disney with a lawsuit and have a PR disaster. If they roll these out, I’m bringing my own toiletries.
How do you know they didn’t pour something nasty in the tiny bottle, not use it and then its been left in the room as it was unused? There is even less tamper-proof seals on the minitures.
I don’t like this idea at all, it seems really unsanitary. I’m staying on property this year but if Disney keeps doing stuff like this I will stay elsewhere next time.
Ok. I guess you never handle money? Better never use it again, disgusting!
I like bringing my own toiletries to Disney. I’m partial to my own brands I like.
What exactly was the problem with people taking home the toiletries? Am I supposed to leave a half full bottle of shampoo for the next guest staying in the room after me? Another outrageous example of Disney’s departure from a middle class friendly environment to a haven for the greedy and sleazy 1%’s!!
They refill those little bottles and keep doing so as long as the bottle isn’t damaged. So, they prefer that guests not take the partial bottles. Nearly all hotels do this.
It’s not people who take the half empty bottle at the end of their stay which the resort would have to throw away anyway… it’s the people who pack away the bottle of soap and conditioner and shampoo every day and go home with 20 little bottles in their suitcase. Plenty of people do it.
If folks choose to take the toiletries home in their room that is left each day what is wrong with that. They are paying for those amentities. I bring them home as I use them at my house and set them out during holidays when guests are here. It would be different if folks were stealing them off of the Mouse keeping carts. If I want to take a pack of coffe that I chose not to use today, I will do just that!
Actually, you COULD leave the half used bottle of whatever. Disney participates in a recycle program that sanitizes & gives left over toiletries to the needy. https://cleantheworld.org/
Ewww will not be sharing toiletries with other guests
What about the restroom soap dispenser, will you share that?
OK, so it saves Disney money; they are a business, after all. How about we all take the higher road and view this as it being easier on the planet – fewer tiny plastic bottles in the landfill. (And, yes, folks can bring and fill their own bottles.)
Are we sure this is actually a picture from inside the showers at Riverside? Looks like a shower in a workout room or something….
I hope I’m correct, but I feel this wouldn’t happen in a Deluxe resort …
I don’t like the community shared toiletries in the guest rooms. It is one thing to use the shared hand soap in a public restroom but in your private hotel room, no.
I also agree guests will pump out the contents into empty containers and take it home.
Just seems like another dumb idea from Disney. Let’s see how many maintenance calls they get because the pumps don’t work. The little bottles probably cost them $.30 and most of the time mousekeeping would replace them daily?
Steal??? the small soaps and toiletries they left are complimentary, meaning gifts!!! they are suppose to be single use, and they are suppose to leave one each night… that idea is unhygienic… Every hotel leave those….
I agree. I also think you should get clean sheets each night. You Pay For It.
I think what bothers me most about this whole thing is the use of the word “STEAL” … personally, i think for what they charge for any room we are MORE than paying for the product. We always stay at a moderate resort for minimum 10 days a year and personally it’s not just the Deluxe resort folks who are annoyed. Just sayin’ … one more reason to stop going …
Exactly. Stealing would be taking the tv or lamp or something else that’s a permanent part of the room.
Wait the TV’s aren’t complimentary?!?!? No wonder I’m banned from Art of Animation.
Frankly the price paid for any Disney Resort from Value all the way up to Deluxe should include the dang toiletries. We are paying a premium price to stay on property. I don’t trust people enough to want to share toiletries with the previous guests. That’s just gross!
How much could they be saving? 10 maybe 15$ for those sample sized bottles? Are they that strapped for money? I don’t see the rates going down… It’s insulting… And gross. Seems like a health code violation. I also agree with the previous comment, people will steal it anyway????
I am torn. Less plastic is better for waste and the environment, but community bottles are kinda gross. I am sure they save money this way. I always considered the shampoo and soap as complimentary, not stealing.
C’mon Disney! This is stupidly ridiculous. It’s something one would see at a ‘No tell’ Motel.
Shameless money grab…Walt rollin’ in his grave…Disney should give me free soap…etc.etc.
Not sanitary. .don’t think through Board of Health would approve. ..I do not want to be touching and using something left behind from the last guest..Gross…I would complain. .but if it’s that much of a problem dont provide anything. …I have way more than 100 or so visits to moderate and mostly deluxe resorts. .for the price we pay we deserve the toiletries
I really don’t think this is to prevent guests “stealing” the toiletries. It’s more environmentally friendly, which is why they do it in Europe. They can just refill these when they are empty.
I don’t want to pump out the same conditioner a teen used to jerk off with.
On the one hand it’s environmentally friendly since you’re not making all the small bottles. On the other hand is not very clean when you have to share the same pump with countless guests in a bacteria-filled shower.
Yet there you are…using the same bacteria_-filled shower….
You have to use the shower and it should be cleaned. Lots of people wash their bodies with their hands using that pump. Then you have to touch and use the same one! No thanks I will be happy to bring my own. Better products anyway.
In theory the showers should be cleaned everyday… but I also doubt that.
Great idea for the environment! I’m sure there’s a handful of people who will be upset about their teeny shampoo bottle to take home with them — what a nice life that must be, if there’s room in your unhappiness file for hotel shampoos.
This was from a handicap accessible room. Not sure if they are just going to be in those rooms or if they will be eventually put everywhere. For me, they are totally gross (all I can think of is a dirty shelf and germs) and anyone could ‘refill’ them with whatever substance they choose. If Disney does put them in every room, I will be very disappointed.
Can’t wait till someone tampers with one…..ugh this is gross
Please never handle paper money or coins again, gross.
Did Disney call these stealable? Not complimentary?
It’s an effort to cut down on what goes into our landfill and I applaud them for this.
We stayed in a very pricey national park lodge with similar toiletries in the shower.
I don’t understand why this was presented as a negative!
Trust me this in NEGATIVE
Hooray a new way to get pinkeye. Thank you Disney, 1 million Bitcoins for you! Because… Money. #dizney_is_a_bizzness #shampoo_thievery
All this rage about sharing toiletries. You share every door handle, public restroom stall surface, soap, and towel dispenser, trading pin, and try on hats, and touch plush toys, and sit on rides with the same public. I watch people during my shifts at Disney. People (especially tiny ones) are capable of horrible breaches of sanitary common sense, including everything you can possibly imagine. What is your point? You have immune systems. It’s why you’re not dead.
Well said!
AMEN!!!! All it would take if someone is a germiphobe is a bit of hand sanitizer to wipe down the pump. It says the pumps will be locked so what’s the issue, folks? I’m pretty sure any pull down bar on any ride in the parks has way more nasty crud from the thousands of people riding every day than these dispensers will ever have.
This is awful! They are slowly but surely taking away the few free things legt. My great nieces and nephews love these and I use them in my camper. Good Lord! Even 5 star hotels put them out! Get over it!
How is this unsanitary? It’s SOAP!
Am I the only one who brings my own toiletries? Crappy hotel soap and shampoo make my hair and skin feel gross. No thanks.
Oh Come on!! Everyone is going to stay elsewhere because you can’t steal 1000 mini bottles of free shampoo to take home??? If you’re that hard up, how do you pay for a Disney vacation in the first place? If this is the change they made that forces you off property, you have bigger issues.
This is not sanitary! That’s just gross! Think of how many people wil touch and rub up against those naked cleaning privates and then touching that pump. So nasty. I just picture a big nasty hairy fat guy rubbing against it naked before I have to touch it with my hand , no thanks!!! Keep your soap! At $500 a night for most resorts , you think they could spare the damn free soap! Tacky! Sooo tacky!!
Same amount of people who pick their nose and then handle money that you use.
1) Only Deluxe and above is $500 a night, and not all of those.
2) You are showering in the same shower as that fat, nasty hairy man and your ass is sitting on the same toilet seat. Think about THAT.
3) I’m sure they will also be cleaned just like every other part of the room.
4) Feel free to bring your own. They are an amenity, not something that is required that the hotel provide you.
So I guess you’re assuming that housekeeping won’t be sanitizing the pump between guests? If you feel so strongly that they don’t sufficiently clean the room between guests, maybe you should rethink ever staying in a Disney resort ever again because big hairy nasty guys have probably done a lot worse in that room than clean themselves. Also the soap is still free genius, they’re just not giving it to you in a tiny bottle. You must like tiny things around your naked body so it makes parts of you feel bigger than they actually are.
In Europe we have dispensers, but not ones like Disney are going to offer. A lot are cartridge filled and dispense from the bottom by pressing the front plate. So very easy to clean and maintain. No harder than cleaning the washbasin taps.
Bring Lysol wipes folks…that should solve the issue of others touching these pumps……just think of everything you touch that someone touched before you….let’s kill all the germs including the good ones so your body has no immunity than see how sick you get with nothing to fight bad germs
I think it’s great!! I have really thick hair and there is never enough shampoo for our family of 4 in one of those small bottles. Plus, I use more conditioner than shampoo.
That’s exactly what my wife said as well. She couldn’t be more happy that they’re doing this.
This makes no sense to me. Disney surely already prices the cost of toiletries into the price they charge for the room so we aren’t “stealing”. They might be trying to protect sales of the H2O toiletries in their gift shops but I’m sure Disney has already figured out that all we have to do is bring empty plastic travel bottles and fill them up from the dispenser. It seems unlikely that it’s to save on trash because we are supposedly taking the toiletries with us so it becomes our trash, not Disney’s.
It’s not about It being trash that Disney has to take care of, it’s about taking up landfill space. Less bottles mean less things going to a landfill.
Its the trash in the landfills. No matter where you leave it. Disney or home it doesn’t matter it all adds up.
Since I’m not into the whole “bathing” thing, this does not bother me.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha !
The comments you people are making here are just laughable. These kinds of body washes and shampoos I have saw in many resorts now. They are on every cruise ship I have taken as well. I would love to see how you all live your life to stay away from germs everyday because they are literally everywhere.
I applauded Disney for this move they are great for the environment.
The comment section on this article is more unsanitary than sharing a refillable soap dispenser with other guests.
It’s not like they can put it back in the bottle get over it and i don’t understand how this is “unsanitary” even if mousekeeping doesn’t wipe it down for whatever reason the handle you just touched is putting out guess what SOAP you will then be washing away any germs you just picked up i do not understand heath code calls…
This is sad! I also find it unsanitary.
Also it was a pleasure a couple of months after my trip to open a Disney Shampoo bottle and make me dream of Disney again! Thinking about bringing my toiletries for my november trip!
Honestly, I’m disgusted at the thought of having to use the same bottles that have been in the shower while someone else showered.
I only hope we get a “length of stay refill” on all 3 bottles of locked toiletries. I tend to shower more these days after visiting the parks…especially if you’re riding the buses. Just sayin’…
I brought a few shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottles home from our last trip to the Wilderness Lodge in September 2016. They stayed in my vanity bag for ages and I recently handed them in to a friend who does toiletries packages for unemployed and/or people on low incomes. I had intended to use them, but the bag was put back in the suitcase and stored in the attic and was forgotten about. Then, when asked, I remembered I had them so I gave them away. I have no idea how much Disney paid for these small bottles – I just know that my two week vacation was $$$$ from the UK so I didn’t feel too bad about asking Mousekeeping for a few extra toiletries to bring home.
Well there goes my family’s Christmas presents
Does anyone know if this has happened in other on property resorts yet? French Quarter as well as Riverside?
Nothing wrong with taking home a couple of these bad boys as a nice momento from your vacation, people staying on property are paying a good amount to be there too, wouldn’t call these toiletries a big luxury not a big waste of money.
And some germaphobes may protest the communal soap dispensers…
I hate futzing with those tiny bottles. I like this approach.
First : I’m a Disney World Fan for sure!!!
But, let’s be honest… who’s really gouging who? I mean what they should have done is put out average small size bottles that you would buy in the store. Then advise the guest in a way that makes them feel special, that these are YOUR BOTTLES to take home as our guests… That’s all you get for every 4 people every 7 days.
Not some hostile style pump bottle that has been touched and used by tons of people…. And not everyone uses a wash cloth!!! Pump, clean, pump clean, aaagghh!!! Butt soap!!!
Thousands of dollars on food, hotel, park pass, parking, souvenirs… and this was their BEST EMPLOYEES BEST DECISION??? You guys shouldn’t be pissed at each other; you should be pissed at the hypocrisy!!!
“Be our guest, be our guest…”
I never wash my hair with hotel soap. I dye it’s and dont want it getting stripped.
That said, I do use the hand soap and body gel. And I bring Lysol wipes and gloves to thouroghly clean surfaces due to some health issues.
I’m not mad about this- I can always just bring my own soap.
I think the new dispenser looks cheap, but it’s better than running out of soap.
I’m SHOCKED that hotels refill The tiny soap containers! Good forvthe environment though, although I’m sure this isn’t what motivates Disney.
As a dvc owner, I really like Disney and feel the value I get is incredible. If they want to have some spa-like shampoo system, so be it.
If it does result in less plastic burned (most landfills have no room anymore), then all the better!
These pumps were present in the newly remodeled Coronado Springs resort as of August 2018.
