The reason for the removal of the Sorcerer’s Hat at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is apparently related to a major update of the Great Movie Ride attraction, thanks to a partnership with Turner Classic Movies.
TCM will help Disney make changes to Great Movie Ride in early 2015, in return Turner Classic Movies will essentially be credited as a sponsor, or presenter of the Great Movie Ride which has operated at the park since it opened in 1989. According to reports, a majority of changes will be made in the pre-show area and in the attraction’s finale.
Among the additions will be a video featuring Robert Osborne , a host from TCM.
The New York Times is confirming these rumors that have been swirling for a few months, but also reports that the deal includes a programming block on the TCM channel that will include classic Disney programming such as the Wonderful world of Color and the Disneyland TV series.
Disney will make an official announcement about the deal on Wednesday.
Ok, while the ride update is cool, my favorite part is that we’re getting World of Color/Disneyland et al back on TV!
So, does that mean leprechaun and its sequels as well as mean girls and clue! Will be represented? TCM means so much more now…
It literally can mean any film in the TCM library I believe.
As a Movie Rider cast member from nearly 20 years ago now, I could not be more thrilled by this news. It has been a REALLY long time in the making! So grateful that Disney acquired Star Wars–the updates to Hollywood Studios are going to be amazing. Congratulations to Turner Classic Movies for signing aboard. Ready when you are, C.B.!
The movies featured on the ride need a major update as well, people under 35 don’t consider those as classics anymore. The new classics are things like Home Alone, Annie, and Titanic. Just my 2¢. I’m glad something is happening, but i hope they get it right, unlike Avatar but that’s a different story.
I have no problem with changing some of the scenes to some modern classics but to be a true representation of Hollywood film, it needs to have movies from across all eras.
Leave Avatar alone and out of this!
They do if they are exposed to them. We always showed our children and grandchildren the old classics. They loved them.Just like I love movies and cartoons before my time. They loved the old Mickey mouse, especially one about there being a fire and a cow being rescued from a fire when it was naked.they laughed so hard. If Walt Disney were alive he would want them to see how it was all started, “by a mouse”.
awesome!
I love Love LOVE that TCM will be airing Wonderful World of Color & the Disneyland TV series. I have been wanting to see those forever. THANK YOU TCM & DISNEY!!!
I hope they fix the Skittles volcano before my next trip. I so miss getting zonked in the head by those tasty tidbits.
