Filming Schedule Released for 2016 Disney Parks Christmas Special, No Parade at Disney World This Year

What began as the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade on ABC won’t even feature a parade at Walt Disney World in 2016.

Filming for the annual TV tradition will take place at Walt Disney World on November 9 -13 in all four Walt Disney World theme parks. Multiple specials will be filmed that will air on the Disney Channel and ABC in November and December, respectively.

The filming at Walt Disney World will be limited to stage performances and musical acts. All of the parade portions of the show will be filmed at the Disneyland Resort this year. Taping dates for the Disneyland portions have yet to be revealed at this time.

    • There’s still going to be a parade portion, just not any of it filmed from MK. Your parade and hot chocolate are safe

  1. I was at the MK in August, and they were filming a Christmas Parade that day (an actual Christmas Parade came out by the firehouse and went down main street in the 99 degree sweltering heat). I assumed that was for the Christmas Special. I wonder why they were filming that day. I’m 99% certain it was Aug 22.

  2. Parades are expensive. They’ll be substituting a small section, enough to make it look nice on TV and lure people to the parks, and then, they’ll find attractions closed, delayed, or reduced capacity with long lines. Lots of people to run full parades, and while guests watching them, they’re not spending money. Sure, people might find them fun, but that’s not in Disney’s bottom line. Disney should be ashamed of themselves to say they’re in “entertainment”. They cut too much.

  3. Does anyone actually read anything anymore before having a reaction?

It says no parade portion being filmed ‘for the special’, because the parade portions are coming from DLR this year (which has always been treated as the step-child of the Christmas special until the last several years anyway). Unless he’s alluding to something, nowhere does he actually say there will be no Christmas parade offering period from MK (which I would highly doubt considering their very popular hard-ticketed parties).

The “Christmas Day Parade” special has been moving towards an overall general Disney Christmas ‘special’ where the parade segments are just one of many features, for well, many years now. Not to mention, the parade they stage for the television special is nothing like the full proper production you would see in the parks anyway. It’s meant to basically be a big commercial for Parks & Resorts. You’re still getting a Christmas special, just with the filmed segments sort of switching resorts this year (not as if that’s even a bad thing, considering DL’s “A Christmas Fantasy” Parade is quite a bit better aesthetically than the parade at MK anyway.)

  4. Oh wells. Disneyland will be doing this year. That’s ok Disney World fans, Is not ABC or Disneyland’s fault.

  5. If this is a cost cutting move, which it seems to be, it is actually understandable given the direction the Christmas show has been taking over the past few years. My question is, what’s next??? To me, I’ve always wondered when Disney will stop the nightly fireworks shows. Do guests go to a park “just” for the fireworks??? Those have to be expensive. I can see it now…” Fireworks on “Special Nights!!” As Spock might say, “It’s only logical!!”

  6. Derek and Julliane Hough performed on the castle stage today. Yesterday they filmed The Descendants on Main Street.

  7. first its goodbye disney parade. whats next disney parks closing their doors for good? bye bye disney. i guess imagination does come to an end

  8. warching the Disney Christmad was a tradition we always looked forward to, when we couldn’t be there. I was disappointed last year, and it looks as though we will be disappointed again this year. Please bring the joy back. We don’t need to see music acts; we need the traditional parade, with all our beloved Disney characters.

  9. i was extremely disappointed with how they dont show the parade anymore. It is all singing and boring. I wont be watching it anymore….very upset to show my kids nothing where I grew up watching it every year.
