Darn they didn’t take my suggestion to call it Kylo Ren destroys more stuff.
I’ll have to let this one sink in for a bit, but I’m not really liking it. The implication that Rey is the “last” jedi seems a bit farcical to the generation that went through Luke being the last jedi, but no, wait! There’s another!
How do you know it doesn’t refer to luke again? It doesn’t have to be literal
Jamie, read that question back to yourself and you’ll understand what I’m getting at. The Force Awakens being Ep 4.1 was forgivable. But I hope The “Last” Jedi isn’t “Luke again”, and hope this episode isn’t Ep 5.1
Except Jedi can be both plural and singular, so it could be referring to both Luke and Rey. Also, my head hurts.
That was the first thing that I thought too that it was kind of a bummer that whoever it is, will be the last Jedi. I have been thinking about it and although it seems obvious that Rey will be The Last Jedi, it could be referring to Luke since she is not a Jedi yet. But more than likely it will be her.
I am with you where I don’t want these movies to be formulaic and repeat the Original Trilogy. I think they knew they could get away with that in the first film but not the second.
I actually had a thought, and this is thinking beyond Episode VIII, maybe Kylo Ren is The Last Jedi. Kylo Ren at one point could have killed Rey while dueling her at the end of TFA, but he stopped and said, you need a teacher. Maybe there is some weird bond or attraction between the two of them, or it will happen. If you want to be really different, have Luke die at the end of The Last Jedi and have Rey surrender to the Dark Side and join Kylo Ren. Then have Rey be murdered in Episode IX by Snoke and then that is when Kylo Ren turns back to the light and becomes Ben Solo and defeats Snoke and becomes The Last Jedi. Also he could be the last Jedi as for that moment but he could go on to train a new Jedi in the next movie. I just doubt that we will never see another Jedi in future Star Wars movies.
I do feel with Carrie Fisher dying that they will want to keep Luke around for the next movie.
And if it is indeed the last jedi, then by god MAKE it the last jedi, and then move the universe in a different direction. The title itself just feels like they’re ready to yank our chains a little. And we already went through the “no, there is another” storyline.
And Joe, do we know with absolute certainty that Leia doesn’t die in VIII?
We know that originally Leia was not supposed to die in VIII and would have a larger role in IX. Lucasfilm said that they would not recreate her digitally but there is still the possibility that they may go with another actress to play her role.
I’m sure most people don’t like that idea but it may be their only option since VIII has finished shooting, although I heard there is a way to kill her off in VIII if they decide to go that way.
Since Carrie Fisher passed away, I am sure there will be some kind of reshoots and if Luke was to die in this one, they may keep him around now. But if Luke does die in this one, he will come back as a Force Ghost, I’m pretty sure.
“I’ll have to let this one sink in for a bit, but I’m not really liking it.”
Well, thank goodness you have 11 months to work this one out.
Hoping for weekly updates.
“The Force Awakens” opening crawl refers to Luke as the last Jedi.
Good catch. I think in Jedi Yoda said, “When I am gone, the last Jedi you will be.” But then he went on to say there was another. Just because there is a last Jedi does not mean that there cant be more Jedi.
I am still holding out hope that Kylo Ren will turn from the Dark Side. Vader did turn but then he died right after that. It would be cool to see a Jedi that had knowledge of the Dark Side emerge.
And I still don’t know what Kylo Ren is. They say he is not a Sith. The recent lore is very confusing.
Kylo is a Knight of Ren. As far as we know, there are no more Sith and the Knights of Ren have taken their place.
Thanks Brian. I remember The Knights Of Ren in TFA but didnt know too much about their history.
I looked them up on Wookieepedia and it states:
The Knights of Ren operated in the decades following the Galactic Civil War. They were under the command of Supreme Leader Snoke, who used them as a tool of the dark side of the Force alongside the First Order. Rey, a Force-sensitive scavenger who hailed from Jakku, saw the Knights of Ren in a vision.
I definitely could see them being the subject of a future spin off movie.
But both Kylo and Rey are capable of using the force. So each are potential jedi, correct?
And again, let’s not for get that Jedi is not singular. The Last Jedi isn’t necessarily 1 person.
You are right but still feel that the title refers to one. But what do I know, just a feeling.
Why don’t they just call it:
