Today, Disney had an exciting milestone to share with us straight from the Toy Story Land construction site at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The final piece of track was recently installed on Slinky Dog Dash, a family coaster that will debut as one of the land’s two new attractions when Toy Story Land opens in summer 2018.

Walt Disney Imagineering just shared this photo, which was snapped just as the final piece of red track was lowered into place.

In Toy Story Land, guests will shrink to the size of a toy and explore the world of Andy’s backyard. Fitting with the theme, Slinky Dog Dash will appear to be a coaster track that Andy has built all over his backyard using his Mega Coaster Play Kit – as well as some of his other favorite toys.

I know I’ll catch all types of s*** for this comment because a lot of people look at everything Disney does with rose colored glasses, but I’m a little disappointed in the design of the track. Seems like it will just be a “kiddie coaster” with a little more juice. I understand that Disney can’t go overboard with the “thrill” rides, but I do believe they are important to have because the rest of the attractions in Pixar land will be very much designed for younger kids.
Either way, I’m sure it will be an enjoyable ride and very very well themed, as Disney always does this well.
They already have the Tower of Tower and the Rockin’ Rollercoaster in that park. Another thrill ride coaster would be nice, but there really wasn’t much for smaller kids in DHS before this that wasn’t a show. Disney has to cater to all audiences, so I get why they are making Toy Story Land more of a kiddie area. They dozed over the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground (which apparently was the only must-do attraction at DHS for a lot of people around here), and are replacing it with an entire area with actual rides. All in all, it isn’t that appealing to me, personally, but it is a vast improvement.
I will agree with you on that… compared to what was there in the past, yes, a vast improvement!
This is a park that right now has 5 rides, three of which are thrill rides , TOT, RNRC, and Star Tours. They need more stuff that can cater to the younger audience that Disney looks for in all it’s other parks. I know people want an over the top thrill ride but a longer barnstormer for the kids is perfectly fine considering you have a guardians coast, Tron coaster and a Star Wars falcon simulator coming within the next 5 years.
I love the idea of Toy Story Land and I’m not sure this is a kiddie ride for those of us scared of heights,. LOL. But I can’t wait to try it.
Toy Story Land, other than the already opened Midway Mania, does not look very impressive. I hope it doesn’t turn out like dino-rama in AK.
