Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is returning to direct and co-write Star Wars: Episode IX.
The announcement comes just one week after news hit that Colin Treverrow would no longer be at the helm of the Star Wars sequel trilogy finale.
Abrams will be co-writing Episode IX with Chris Terrio, who served as a writer on Argo, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the upcoming Justice League.
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy in regards to the announcement.
Star Wars: Episode IX is currently slated for a May 24, 2019 release, though that date may change with the shakeup in production.
That’s terrible news! He did a crap job with The Foce Awakens. ‘Let’s just copy the original, make the characters forgettable, and make the Death Star bigger. Then market the crap out of it.’
Return of the Jedi rehash confirmed
You must be so excited at the potential of Daisy Ridley in a gold bikini then. Looks like ‘ol Pete will be getting kicked out of another theater for public indecency.
Shows what you know, I can’t afford theater tickets.
J.J is the death of Star Wars and my whole life in one. The Force Awakens is the greatest movie ever made and Rouge One is over ratted.
Don’t worry we have a modest payment plan!
Glad to hear it. He’ll do a great job.
Nice try Mrs. Abrams.
I would have rather liked Steven Spielberg or Peter Jackson to have helmed Episode IX. But at least we know its in good hands!
