Pirates of the Caribbean Will Close in Early 2018 to Change Redhead Auction Scene

Pirates of the Caribbean at the Magic Kingdom will close in early 2018 for a refurbishment which will include controversial changes to the Auction scene of the ride.

The attraction will be closed February 26th to March 18th, 2018, reopening on March 19th, 2018 with the new scene.

The new auction scene will feature an auction of goods rather than for a Pirate bride.

Absolutely ridiculous. Such a politically correct thing to do but it seems that the leadership at Disney has that mindset now. Very disappointing.

ah yessss everyone get mad because Disney wants things to be more appropriate. YOU GUYS ARE AWFUL, DISNEY IS AND WILL REMAIN MAGICAL AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM NOT WANTING TO EXHIBIT SEX TRAFFIC-ESQUE BEHAVIOR ON THEIR RIDES, even if it is about pirates – these are DISNEY PIRATES dammit

Perhaps. But this attraction is based on history, not on being politically correct. To that end, a lot of Disney would have to be removed (e.g., what kind of relationship did Snow White really have with the seven little guys? If you think that accusation is preposterous, you haven’t been paying attention.)

Oh stop whining everybody, it’s a freaking ride at a theme park. Anything they do will be to update the old crap they’ve had since the 80s, and that’s fine. Is this really ruining your childhood? You’re upset at a robot pirate.

Updating is one thing. Changing something to appease the political correctness police is quite another.

Why would the pirates who just stole the loot be auctioning it off? It doesn’t even make any sense. Just leave it alone!

LOL.

Like the ride already has some detailed, consistent narrative to begin with.

perhaps treating women like people instead of property seems the right thing to do

Catherine,

A show scene depicting events of the past does not demean women. We can’t change the past

Yes, because pirates were known for sticking with “the right thing to do.”

Fully agree, it would be like saying let’s change our history cause blacks are not slaves, women are not property. Cause that is wrong and should change it so no one gets their feelings hurt.

lol look at all the snowflakes screaming about the PC POLICE! Yeah, sorry I’ll take the selling of stolen goods over the selling of women being forced in to marriage scene any day. Unlike the cry babies in the comments, Disney is willing to make changes for the better without destroying the ride. Don’t see these same people whining about other changes like Depp being put in about 6 different places. God forbid Disney wants to adjust a scene depicting selling women in to marriage against their will to something different but still fitting the theme of the ride. Get… Read more »

Times change.

Grow up.

Stop spending money at the parks. Vote with you wallet. Disney would put the redhead in a dog collar if it meant maintaining the stock price.

Good god. Settle down. This is ridiculous. Forget having a great conversation in the NEXT LINE YOU WAIT IN about why they used to do that and how far we’ve come. I think they should remove the dog with the key because they aren’t paying him and they are exploiting him. Lol. Good grief

If you are worried about this minor change then clearly you don’t have enough in your life to be worried about. If you don’t like it – don’t go. Oh, and stop with the snowflake rubbish. From either side it’s pathetic.

Next, maybe they can change the scene where the pirate lowers the man into the well. And that whole burning village part has got to go.
