Starting this week, rolling changes are coming to Tomorrowland as it gets ready for the arrival of TRON Lightcycle Power Run and perhaps a larger reimagining.
As part of these changes, iCan the Robot will no longer be offered. His final day of performances will be April 7th, 2018.
As well, the long-standing merchandise cart themed to The Claw and Aliens from Toy Story will close on April 8th, 2018. There is no word on a replacement, but it will likely lose the Toy Story themed elements as they are too similar to the upcoming Toy Story Land.
Last week, we told you that enhancements were coming to the Purple Wall in Tomorrowland. Well, it seems those enhancements are related to an overall repainting of the land that will begin this week. Most of the land will be repainted “crystal white” with some hexagon patterns in places. The hexagons will become more prevalent near the Purple Wall, eventually creating a barrier around the one area that will remain purple. This will look like a portal of sorts, allowing the old purple to fit in with the new color scheme.
These changes come in addition to the ongoing expansion of Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe and the repainting of Walt Disney Carousel of Progress, both of which have occurred over the last few months.
With TRON Lightcycle Power Run coming in 2021 and the clock ticking on the existence of Stitch’s Great Escape, it would seem all of this ties into a new vision for Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom.
My guess is we will see that Toy Story stand in Hollywood Studios.
Any idea on what will be done to the speedway? It seems like it will have to be closed from the concept art when Tron construction really gets underway, so I’m guessing they’ll just make any upgrades at that time. It seems Disney has been pretty quiet about that though.
Do we have to worry about Space Mountain going under refurbishment for a retheme? We may be going next February/March and it wouldn’t be the same without Space Mountain?
Dear Disney,
Please leave the People Mover alone…or better yet, expand it into Tron.
Thank you.
I wonder if they will move the Buz Lightyear ride over to Toy Story land.
It’s already WDW’s Pixar pier maybe they will rename it Pixar Port and add more overlays and gift shops that have no relation like Buzz and Monsters. The people mover can be rethemed to Mega Mart transportation from Wally with milkshakes and seats to help you stand up, Space will be Incredibles, Speedway way Cars, Carousel of Progress Inside Out, Stitch will become bing bong encounter and the Astro jets will be the dog planes fron Up that fly around the house or a blimp.
@IPMan How about Disney instead sells off Pixar, Marvel, and gives Lucasfilm back to George and lose IP instead. They should be putting back the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter instead. It should’ve never closed and what CMs should’ve done to all the angry soccer moms who complained that little Johnny was scarred for life by the Alien’s breath on his neck and being splattered with “blood” from the attacked maintenance guy is call them chicken to their faces and laugh at them for being wimpy. Also bring back the Timekeeper. Who cares about merchandise? Draining the swamp of IPs will make WDW great again.
