Earlier this week, the concrete foundation was poured for what will soon take shape as Epcot’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” attraction. The attraction is on track to be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters – and to house it, the attraction’s building will more than double the size of the original Universe of Energy building.
Disney is now promising that this attraction will expand on the original vision of Epcot’s Future World as a place filled with new discoveries and innovations through a unique “Guardians” story that’s currently being created by Walt Disney Imagineering. Earlier this week, 960 trucks’ worth of concrete was poured to create the foundation for this roller coaster ride.
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the work that’s happened onsite so far in the video below:
While the “Guardians of the Galaxy” attraction is currently set to debut at Epcot just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, guests don’t have to wait too long to get a “Guardians” fix at Epcot. “The Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live!” concert series, part of the Incredible Summer celebration at Walt Disney World Resort, will begin June 9th at the park. In the concert series, Star-Lord and Gamora will take guests on a musical journey through the cosmos. Shows will feature tunes from Star-Lord’s Awesome Mixtapes, the two movie soundtracks. The group will take the stage five times daily, June 9th through August 19th.
Cool post but silly advertising. This thing isn’t going to be done for years! And is only one track. They’re a decade behind the curve on updating this decrepit park. They should have stuff in the works for the next decade, and should have had stuff opening yearly for a while now. Huge lines. Mostly items to buy and desert parties. Silly.
To each their own. It’s always been my favorite Disney park.
True. It just hasn’t really changed in 30 years, and they pack it more, and staff it less now. Way less clean. Less to do. More advertising. Less quality. Otherwise, a good park.
I still am surprised that Disney is giving so much to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. They seem way out of place in Epcot. This poor park and Hollywood Studios too, are so neglected. I feel bad for the family who never gets to WDW often, deciding to try Epcot or Hollywood Studios. 4 or 5 rides and the kids are done. World showcase has become drinking and shopping showcase. The overused videos and movies are old and boring. They even botched Soarin by making it worse. The bent Eiffel Tower makes me cringe. Soaring over California was superior. And last, the horrible Journey to Imagination is an insult to anyone with an imagination. The “imagineers” sure blew this one. Boring, forgettable and makes me depressed walking through that beautiful big pavilion. 20 years and this is the best they can do? Ugh…. Sorry Figment, but you are not Epcot’s mascot and you should join Horizons and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the “gone but not forgotten “ file.
