Back in April Disney unveiled the ‘Digital Key’ feature coming to MyDisneyExperience. This cool new tool allows guests to unlock their guest room door at their resort with the MyDisneyExperience app using Bluetooth technology.
Originally only available at the Wilderness Lodge and Wilderness Lodge Vacation Club Resorts, this fun tech was slowly rolled-out to more resorts starting in May. Today the Magic Kingdom Area resorts are added to the list of participating resorts. The full list of resorts that allow Digital Key are as follows..
- Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
- Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
- Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
- The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
- Disney’s Beach Club Resort
- Disney’s Beach Club Villas
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
- Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
- Disney’s Boardwalk Villas
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
- The Villas at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
- Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
- The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
Pending another successful launch, we expect this technology to be added to even more resorts within the coming weeks!
So with magic bands, what is the point of having this too?
Agreed. Seems to be an unnecessary tool. Kind of a “look what we can also do with technology” type of thing. Meh
some people don’t wear magic bands. So I guess this helps those who don’t want to dig around for a key card, but how much time it saves is probably very little. Unless of course it’s a person who always has their phone in their hand already which is probably more people than we care to admit.
I wish they spent more time fixing all of the bugs on My Disney Experience. I spent 3 hours last week trying to get fastpasses – the system kept crashing. By the time it was working properly either everything was gone or I couldn’t get any where near the time I wanted. So I wish they would spend more time fixing things like that instead of rolling out additional technologies that I don’t think people really care about.
Amen sister. The process seems to work a bit better on the website using an actual computer, but is still one of the most frustrating apps I’ve ever had the misfortune to use on my phone. They should re-hire those IT developers they replaced with H1B import workers a few years ago.
And yes, why is this necessary? This is another disturbing example of the omnipresence of “smart” phones dominating people’s lives. So pointless.
