New Cast Member Parking Lot Being Built by the Magic Kingdom

A new parking lot for cast members is being built just north of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The parking lot will feature 595 new spaces and will be outfitted with a sheltered bus stop for cast member transportation.

Plans for this new lot were initiated when the Main Street Theater was announced for the Magic Kingdom since the theater would take away an executive parking lot. Evidently, the parking lot plans did not go the way of the dodo bird like the theater did as Disney is trying to free up space at the executive parking lot.

Currently, the site of the parking lot is a “mixed-use lot comprised of gravel and compacted base material” which they want to pave over and modernize. Here’s how Disney described the scope of the project:

The proposed asphalt parking lot includes a bus stop and shelter structure. A 1.27-acre wet retention pond, Pond 1, will be added to the northeast side of the parking lot to provide water quality.

The new lot will retain the “Pluto Lot” designation of the former mixed-use lot on the same site. Since plans were filed with the South Florida Water Management District, construction should start soon on this parking lot.

  1. This is more of a ‘we’re paving this parking lot’ rather than a ‘this is a new parking lot’.

    • Pretty much. The early WDW park map that was in rooms inside of the Contemporary and Polynesian Resorts had the Persian Resort in a line with the castle and the speedway, just slightly below where this parking lot is located.
