Welcome back to another year of Mexico’s small, overpriced dishes. This incarnation is a short rib tostada. Sure, the short rib is tender, but it’s a rather small portion and not particularly flavorful. In place of more short rib is black beans, onion, and a mild salsa.

Shrimp Quesadilla: Corn Tortilla with Shrimp, Oaxaca Cheese and topped with Spicy Guajillo Sauce and Sesame Seeds – $7.25

And speaking of overpriced small portions, meet the shrimp quesadilla. There’re a few small shrimp in the tiny quesadilla, with just enough cheese to cover everything. They’re not joking about the Guajillo sauce being spicy. If you prefer to not have the sauce touch the dish, ask for it without the sauce, because it’s quite the experience. Over $7 for this dish just feels wrong, even if it is seafood at an Epcot festival.

Coconut Rice Pudding served with Mango Coulis (V, GF) – $4.25

This is a much better representation of portion size matching the price. There’s a lot of creamy, sweet rice pudding packed into this small cardboard bowl. This is easy enough to share between a few people, unless you really love rice pudding. We recommend mixing in the mango topping to get the most flavor across bites. This is one of the better desserts at the entire event this year.

Cerveza Por Favor: Dos Equis Draft Beer with a hint of Almond (4.2% ABV) – $4.75

Cerveza Por Favor: Dos Equis Draft Beer with a hint of Almond (4.2% abv), $4.75

It’s a beer. Well, Dos Equis Draft with just a hint of almond, that’s provided by a splash of almond liquor after being poured. At fifty cents more than any of the other craft beer 6oz pours at the festival, it’s hard to justify Dos Equis at this price. But hey, “when in Mexico….”

Mariachi Loco: Margarita with Libelula Tequila Joven, Mango Purée, and Chamoy – $9.00

Mariachi Loco: Margarita with Libelula Tequila Joven, Mango Purée, and Chamoy, $9.00

As the ingredients would suggest, this is a fruity margarita with hints of mango throughout. It’s not as pulpy as one would imagine, making it easy drinking and quite refreshing. Drink prices in Mexico went down from 2017 to 2018, which is unusual for an Epcot festival. There must be a certain point where people will stop paying $13 for a premixed jug of margarita. $9 isn’t bad for this drink.

Ay Caramba: Smoky Margarita with Gracias A Dios Mezcal, Lime Juice, and Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur – $10.25

Ay Caramba: Smoky Margarita with Gracias A Dios Mezcal, Lime Juice, and Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, $10.25

This is the best of the bunch here at Mexico. There’s a slight smoky flavor to the margarita, thanks to the mezcal. On the back of each sip you’ll feel a tinge from the chile liqueur used in the mixture. There’s a smoked-salt rim that adds to the overall flavor profile of the drink. Although it’s poured from a premixed vat, at least this one tastes pretty good.

La Chancla: Red Wine Sangria mixed with Fruit Juice – $8.75

La Chancla: Red Wine Sangria mixed with Fruit Juice, $8.75

“It tastes like sangria”—probably because it is sangria. While we’re unsure of the red wine used in the mix—or what’s blended—we can tell you this is a refreshing drink that doesn’t taste particularly boozy. We’ll leave that up to you if that’s a good or a bad thing.

El Padrino: Blackberry Mexican Punch with Velo Blanco Tequila – $9.50

Don’t bite the plantain on top! Or do, but be forewarned: It’s one of the spiciest things at the festival! The drink itself isn’t anything crazy. It tastes like a watered-down fruit punch with minimal alcohol involved. If you’re getting one drink at Mexico, make it the Ay Caramba.
