‘A Nightmare Before Christmas’ Celebrates its 25th Anniversary

The classic stop-motion animation film ‘A Nightmare Before Christmas’ turns 25 this year – that’s quarter of a century! So if you didn’t feel old before reading this, you probably now feel like you’d fit in well with the residents of Halloween Town.

On its release in 1993, the film was met with overwhelming critical praise and financial success, and became an instant Christmas (or Halloween?) classic among moviegoers. It sees the King of Halloween Town Jack Skellington discover a doorway into Christmas Town, where darkly-festive antics ensue, and where he also falls in love with rag doll Sally.

Adapted from a short poem penned by Hollywood director Tim Burton in 1982, the film has long since become a landmark in stop-motion animation and even went on to be nominated for an award for its visual effects. But besides its aesthetics, the film also sports a number of classic sing-along songs, including the iconic “This is Halloween”.

It’s fair to say that ‘A Nightmare Before Christmas’ has become one of Disney’s most lucrative lines of merchandise, and one can’t argue that it translates well onto the shelves far more than many films. Speaking of which, you can expect a whole bunch of celebratory merchandise at the Disney Parks this year, as well as on ShopDisney, where items range from spook-tacular bags to fright-tastic attire.

You can also expect a special edition sing-along DVD and Blu-Ray, and if you’re lucky you might even be able to grab tickets to Danny Elfman’s live celebratory concert at the Hollywood Bowl later this month. But if you don’t have a world-crossing portal to get there, then be sure to pick up some of the limited merchandise and enjoy inspired experiences and events at the Disney Parks, including of course the Haunted Mansion Holiday makeover.

If you’re a huge fan of this film, don’t miss out on the celebrations, or you might end up having your own nightmare before Christmas!
