Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney Anaheim closed earlier this year along with ESPN Zone, Rainforest Cafe, AMC Theaters and a few other smaller businesses in preparation for the Disneyland Resort’s proposed 4th hotel. When Disney halted plans for the hotel thanks to a disagreement with the city of Anaheim, it left an abandoned, yet still open side of Downtown Disney for guests to walk through. While Disney has tried to fill this void with food trucks and live entertainment, the first real step in reinvigorating this zone near the Disneyland Hotel took place today when Earl of Sandwich moved back in to their momentarily-shuttered former location.
Many news outlets reported that the reopening was delayed, yet here we are.
A lengthy queue ready for the starved Disneyland masses.
It’s a good thing they left the place mostly intact.
Disneyland Resort has yet to announce the full cancellation of the 4th hotel project for this plot, but seeing as Earl of Sandwich cast members were hired back with no end date in sight, we can’t imagine that the project is still alive. Hopefully we’ll find out more soon because there are still a lot of closed buildings down at this end of Downtown Disney.
I imagine they will start building it once they reach a deal with the city of Anaheim. I just hope they build it at some point, the resort needs it!
Do you think they’ll reopen the Rainforest Cafe then? Or is that one a goner?
