Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is set to open in the Fall of this year. Recently, more construction walls came down, revealing what will be the exit to the attraction. It still looks pretty similar to the old Great Movie Ride exit, with some refurbishment work and enhancements in place.

Main Exit

While currently blocked off with poles, this is where the ride will exit once open. It’s the same doors where The Great Movie Ride once exited.

This is just to the right of the main exit. These new doors will likely not be used by guests. This area used to be level with the higher pavement and then slope downward behind the planter.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is set to open this Fall and we can’t wait (Cue mourning the loss of GMR)! Do you think it will be a good replacement for The Great Movie Ride?

  1. I think it will be a fun ride. I wish, given crowding issues and available land at WDW, that they’d just add rides instead of replace rides.

    • You have two being added in Fall for Star Wars. That’s about all the expansion space they have at the moment.

  2. Anything released yet as to whether there will be a height restriction for M and M’s Runaway Railway?

  3. I will always miss the Great Movie Ride personally. Some could say it was ugly, but it was family. I am not one to hate on Disney projects before I experience them, but I truly am not looking forward to this ride and don’t think I’ll ever bother riding it. It seems to be only VR and that just doesn’t impress me. They had room at Hollywood to just put the railroad elsewhere. Such a tragedy. :(

  4. My biggest hesitation is trying to get used to the new cartoon style they’re using. My biggest gripe is that Mickey’s pants are twice the width of his waist and just magically float around him somehow. It feels a little TOO quirky for Mickey and friends.

    • haha dont think too hard about it.. did you ever notice that when Mickey and Minnie are turned away from the camera you can still see both ears as full circles. Thats old animation as well

    • I’m personally not a fan of the “ren and stimpy” style of cartoon, if you get my drift. My kids (ages 8 and under), however, love them. I agree, I wish they had just added to HS instead of replacing the ride that was unique to the park. Btw, my kids loved the GMR as well and commented frequently how they missed it on our last visit this past Nov. Fingers crossed it won’t completely be VR…!

      • “ren and stimpy” style YES! hate this so much, what is wrong with the original style? My oldest said what is wrong with them but the younger two haven’t noticed yet but I’m sure they will. As R.K, said it makes goofy come off “dumb looking”. Loved the GMR wish they didn’t get rid of it, I understand some people didn’t know what half the movies were and that was half the reason why they took it away but that should’ve been the reason to keep it to show people the history of films, just update some of it
