REVIEW: Port Orleans Riverside Debuts Cotton Candy Cupcake

If you think the latest Disney cupcakes can’t get any sweeter, think again. The Riverside Mill food court at Port Orleans Riverside has a new cupcake, and it’s got a little surprise inside. This purple swirl cupcake has a cotton candy infused buttercream in the center, and it’s just what you’re thinking. Sweet.

The purple and blue buttercream blends together in a beautiful galaxy swirl. Copious amounts of glitter cover the entire thing. If I was in charge of glittering a cupcake, this is probably what I would have done, too. Pour that sparkle on me, baby! This beautiful coloring reminds me of my new purple potion Spirit Jersey. Cripsy white chocolate pearls line the edge of the frosting and two ganache ears top it all off.

As we cut into the cupcake, it’s obvious it could use a little thawing out. It’s still slightly frozen and requires some effort to cut through the frosting. But it’s worth it. The light blue filing is a cotton candy infused frosting and it’s incredible. The flavor is subtle at first. You need a good amount of frosting to taste the cotton candy flavoring. But when you do, you’ll wish you had more. Please, just give me a cup of this filling. It would have been nice if the cotton candy flavoring had also been on top of the cake.

The rest of the cake is just okay. I’m sure if I had let it sit out and defrost, it would have been a little better. Being so cold, it just came across as an average cupcake hiding a delicious filing. The cotton candy filing saves the cupcake, but there isn’t much of it. Everything else tasted just like your standard vanilla cake and vanilla frosting.
