We reported earlier this week about the beginning stages of the process behind draining the moat surrounding Cinderella Castle. On a tour through the park today, we caught the latest updates on the progress, featuring an almost completely empty moat.
It doesn’t look quite as magical with all that gunk at the bottom.
The moat is being drained so construction can begin on widening the pathway that connects Liberty Square by Sleepy Hollow to Fantasyland. The pathway as it stands now is quite narrow and is prone to bottlenecking, especially with Magic Kingdom’s ever-increasing crowd levels. Widening it will definitely help improve the flow of traffic in this area.
The moat is almost completely dry in the immediate area surrounding Cinderella Castle, and the draining continues all the way over to the area by the entrance to Tomorrowland, where a makeshift dam is in place.
While the pathway where the construction is expected to take place remains open as of today, with the moat nearly completely drained, it’s only a matter of time before it’s closed off. Get your castle photos on the charming benches that line this path while you still can!
Stay tuned to WDWNT for continuing updates on this project!
