REVIEW: Mimosa-Flavored Spring Cupcake at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

I spent the day riding the monorail and hopping on and off at the resorts to try all the Easter treats. It’s a hard job, but somebody’s gotta do it, right? Gasparilla Island Grill at the Grand Floridian is offering a beautiful Spring Cupcake, available through May 31st. Luckily, you have plenty of time to try this interesting new offering.

The description calls this cupcake a mimosa-flavored cake with orange-scented custard. It also says there’s a splash of orange liqueur and champagne-flavored extract. This sounds similar to the castle cupcake no longer offered at the Magic Kingdom. It wasn’t quite the same, but it’s still a pretty unique flavor combination.

The frosting flowers look a little bit like Play-Doh, and they are oddly floating off the cake, but this buttercream is incredible. I would go back and order this cupcake just for the buttercream. Unfortunately, there isn’t nearly enough for the cake. The brightly colored flowers are cute, but there’s more cake than frosting. This would be the one time I’d prefer more frosting than cake.

You can see what I mean about the frosting to cake ratio.

Cutting into the cake, you can see there is just a small little “dip” in the cake filled with the custard. I really didn’t care for the consistency of the filling, but thankfully, it doesn’t take up too much of the cupcake.
