BREAKING: Takumi-Tei Signature Restaurant Set To Open This Summer at Epcot’s Japan Pavilion

Calling all world travelers! Disney has just announced the name and opening date of the upcoming Signature Restaurant at Epcot’s Japan Pavilion. Takumi-Tei, set to open this Summer, will provide guests a signature dining experience inspired by the natural beauty of Japan.

Guests can enjoy a special Chef’s Table dining experience in the Water Room.

The restaurant will be named Takumi-Tei, which means house of the artisan. The design celebrates the relationship between Japanese craftsmanship and the natural world, while the food is inspired by the wonderful collaboration between nature and takumi, the artisan.

According to internal documents we previously unveiled, the interior will have a few different themed rooms:

  • Material Room (Check-In, Lobby)
  • Wa Room
  • Water Room
  • Washi Room
  • Wood Room
  • Stone Room
  • Earth Room

The upscale dinner menu will highlight wagyu beef in a sublime setting, and guests interested in the ultimate experience will be able to indulge in a multi-course tasting menu featuring traditional tea service. Signature cocktails and premium sake will be available along with a wine and craft beer menu.

Takumi-Tei will open in the Japan pavilion at Epcot this summer and will be operated by Mitsukoshi USA, which operates the merchandise, restaurants (Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining), and kiosks in the Japan pavilion. The new restaurant will add to the rich tapestry of cultural experiences available to guests in World Showcase.

Progress on the project so far includes an entrance awning and some winding walls that lead guests into the main check-in area of the restaurant. Check back in with WDWNT for all the latest construction updates as the restaurant nears completion in the coming months!

  1. Is this going to be the infamous “American” Wagyu Beef , which is the oxymoron of culinary gaffes?

    • Since it was brought up: “Wagyu” simply means “Wa” (Japanese) & “gyu” (cow) & refers to all Japanese beef cattle. The American Wagyu Association was incorporated in Texas on March 14, 1990 and serves to register Wagyu cattle in the U.S., Canada and other countries. The Association has a vibrant membership base and continues to promote and develop a sustainable industry here in the US. Of the four breeds of Wagyu cattle, the Japanese Black & Japanese Brown (called Reg Wagyu here) are imported. Finally, for the curious, Kobe beef is a very specific breed of Wagyu called the Tajima-Gyu & is raised under very specific standards. :)
