Construction for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the new attraction replacing The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios has mostly been confined to within the show building. Periodically, however, over the course of the last two years, they’ve needed to do some work on the outside of the building. These changes have mostly been minor, but we may be getting closer to some larger alterations here soon. With the attraction scheduled to open sometime early next year, work is underway to ready the building for the new show!

Walls went up overnight just to the right of the Chinese Theater. This space was, for a long time, the extended queue for The Great Movie Ride.

The Great Movie Ride had two entrances, the FastPass entrance (at the front door) and the standby line (underneath the pagoda, to the right). However, last time they did major work to the facade, they closed off the pagoda entrance with a new stanchion, leading me to believe that might just be used as part of the extended queue.

The walls extend just to the courtyard doorways on the inside.

They do, however, extend all the way down the stairs to the right (across from Walt Disney Presents). The handicap ramp is currently closed off. In the meantime, they’re sending guests with strollers and wheelchairs down to the Animation Courtyard gates. No word on how long they expect the walls to be up.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is scheduled to open “Spring 2020”, which could be as early as next February. You can check out our full walkthrough of what the attraction will entail here. (If you’re wary of spoilers, I’d suggest against it!) We’ll keep you updated on this project as it gets nearer to completion!
